You shouldn't downplay it so much jacksonian. It feels disingenuous. This offense can beat any pitcher into submission and I have no doubt they can do it to Dice K too. They did it to Pedro, even in 00 and 01. That was largely a different team, but the philosophy was the same: lots of power, good eyes, great contact hitters.

You guys get to face a gross 6-9, consider it an inning off. Our lineup is based upon never having a break. This is what we wanted to avoid. DiceK has to battle to get through 6 hitters and then gets a 3 hitter break. That hurts.

 

BTW, Chase annoys the f*** out of me right now. Have the bus to Trenton ready. THROW f***ING STRIKES!

Youkilis is seeing the ball very well.

 

I love it that people criticize him for not having enough power etc., when he has such a good eye and generally hits good linedrives. I think Youkilis is an ideal #2 or #6 type hitter.

 

What the sox need, if anything, is a 1B or 3B with more power and to keep Youk for the opposite position.

No, we have to face an AVERAGE 6-9. This is what the MLB is supposed to be like and how most national league teams operate most of the time. The 1-6 is still disgusting.

The 1-6 is good. But the 1-6 that you guys have isnt too bad. The thing that sets us apart is that our 7 and 8 hitters are supposed to be Posada and Cano. With Matsui and Posada out, we have Nieves and Melky in the lineup and Melky is not hitting yet. Nieves hasnt had a major league hit since 2002. Add to that the fact that Joe loves Mientkiewicz for some reason and we have 3 guys who are well below average right now. Thing is, even when guys like Posada and Matsui slump, they eat pitches and take walks. When these guys arent going good, they are 2 pitch outs.

I completely agree, but I dont think that having a "hole" in the 7 and 8 spot is an excuse to lose on a team with this firepower. If you took the AL All-Star Team, and replaced the 7-9 hitters with average guys you would still have an AL All-Star Team.

I get the feeling that WMP can hit this kid pretty well.

 

I dont. A guy like Chase is not what WMP should be able to hit. Farnsworth is a guy I'd expect WMP to eat up. But a 87-90mph fastball and a kid who lives off a change? He should have WMP tied in knots.
