Francona: Tavarez would be closer if season started tomorow

Another report saying Tavarez is set to be the opening day closer, at least for the first 6 days of the season before Timlin comes back. It says Joel Pineiro only has a shot if he's lights out for the rest of ST. Funny how Michael Silverman complains about Pineiro's 13 hits in 9 innings but doesnt account the streak of 7.1 scoreless innings. Also funny how he doesnt account that in 12.2 innings, Tavarez has walked 7 and hit 3 batters. Oh yea Tito he just knows how to throw strikes.

Riverside, it looks like Papelbon is going back to the bullpen. The Red Sox are ready to make the announcement this afternoon after their game with the Phillies. I had this nasty feeling that was why Theo was determined to pick some stiff already in our pen because he had an out in Paps if worse came to worst. Now we will need a No. 5 starter because Wakefield is now #4 and has pitched s***** all Spring and I really believe he has just about had it. Suddenly we have a hole in our rotation. This soap opera never seems to stop.
