Reports out of every boston news service indicate BC coach tom obrien is leaving boston for nc state,no news as to if bc will have obrien coaching them in their 12/30 bowl game

as a season tix holder i have mixed emotions

obrien ran a good program, recruited very very well and brought back some dignity to the school after the dan henning era of misery

however

he could never seal the deal and win the big games that were in front of him.

he lost 3 road games in conference this year as a big favorite including the season ender against miami, who by all accounts packed it in back in october.

I'm not disappointed. Like you said, he lost pivotal games at the end of the season which blew our chances at winning the conference. He always brought us to mediocre bowl games. f***, we could do that with a 6-6 record. He was pretty successful, but not anything special, IMO. Good luck to him, wish him the best, but not sad to see him go.

agreed

as you know obrien had them on the fence of greatness 3 years in a row and 3years in a row he failed to get it done as huge favorites

in 04 he was a 13pt favorite at home against syracuse and got beat by 40

a win wouldve put us in the fiesta bowl but instead a back up safety scored 4xs and ran for 275 yards

in 05 he lost to a suck nc team that cost us a newyears day game

this year he goes 9-3

finally beating va tech and fsu but his losses??

to a suck 3-9 nc state game on a hail mary of all things

to a miami team that hadnt scored in the 2nd half since september

and to the wake team as a 4 point favorite with wakes 3rd string tailback and freshman qb sticking it up his ass

he had integrity

he recruited very well

he couldnt win the big game and his teams often looked uninspired

i thank him at the same time as i hold the door open for him

mixed emotions i guess

I'm not sure you can blame him for any of the losses this year. The Hail Mary was a fluke thing. There's no schemes you can draw up to prevent a hail mary, it all comes down to execution by your players. The Miami game was against a Miami team that certainly came to play that night, in what could've been the last game for their coach and a game that got them bowl eligible. Miami threw in the towel early this season... but they came to play against BC. And I think you're very much underrating Wake Forest.

well

obrien had the ball on the nc state 30 with 2 to play,2nd and short

he ran toal on a 2 dive 3xs in a row and failed

then he went prevent defense with less than a minute to play

4 plays later nc state was celebrating

miami didnt beat anyone of substance all year and thanksgiving they show up

our guys didnt

bc outweighed wakes dline by 40lbs a man

ryan ended up throwing way too much in a game that was decided by 4 points and bc turning the ball over inside wakes 30? if i recall with less than a minute to go

anyone of these 3 games bc couldve and shouldve won

with a victory in any of these games they end up in the acc championship game against gtech and at least they play in the gator bowl

now??

now they go to this s*** game against a service academy

he is a good man

a good recruiter

but he plays not to lose rather than to win

Yeah, I hate coaches like that.

But what I'm saying about Miami is that it was the last game under their coach, and for a possible bowl spot. I watched that game and they definitely came to play, in my opinion.

He ran the system well. His problem was game preperation and management. Now it's time to play the rumor game to figure out who the next Eagles' coach will be.
