Schilling faded down the stretch and broke down. Beckett finished his first full season in the majors last yr and he was horrible. How are those 2 not question marks?

You are really going to have to start watching the Red Sox games if you want to retain any credibility to comment about them. Schilling did n't fade so much as the offense and the bullpen all but evaporated from August on. There were several games that he pitched well enough to win and he probably should have had 18 or 19 wins. Beckett won 15 games in 2005 (not bad for a partial season) and 16 in 2006. He's 26 years old and throws mid to upper 90's. He also pitched much better in his last 12 or so starts. If he's a question mark, there are few teams in the league that don't have 5 question marks in their rotation.

It's been a very active and fun day for Red Sox fans. They signed a really good fielding RF with some good offensive production to help the #5 hole. They also signed a speedy SS that upgrades the team offensively at that position. It looks like Manny will be staying, and last but not least, Lester is making a great recovery. The FO seems intent on building a well-rounded powerhouse of a team. Today Yankee fans were like kids with their noses pressed against the candy store window. Maybe they will get some candy tomorrow. I hope not. I like watching them squirm.

Our 4th OF's have gotten 300-400 ABs the last few seasons.

Does Lugo have a tendancy to commit a bunch of errors and really screw up or does he just not make it to balls in time...late on a throw or moreso throw it over the firstbaseman's head (and glove)?

What makes his defense so subject?

 

Depending on which he does, would correlate to how is treated in Boston (media and fans) I would imagine.

It is shaping up like the FO is intent on building a powerhouse team.

 

Although the contract is higher than I think it shouldve been & the sox lose their 1st round pick... this was a no-brainer for the Sox. A good day for myself being a Sox fan seeing Lugo come on board who should definitely be a big part of the 07 Sox team. Good vibes about a 1-2 of Lugo, Youkilis. Well, he has made 136 errors in the 6 seasons hes played, for a fielding % of .966

 

Anyway you try to cut that, he just isn't a good fielder. He has made at least 20 errors in 4 of his last 6 years, just falling one shy of that mark last season. YUK. We really should have kept Renteria.

Sox were basically choosing between Lugo & Cora as their everyday shortstop... Im sure there's no complaints on their decision

Yes, at this point he is their best option. I just hate how our FO has gone through SS. When you have 11 people filling in at SS over just 2 years, theres something wrong. I still don't understand the sox's eagerness to get rid of Renteria last season. He had one bad Defensive season and a good offensive season and they just shipped him out.

Well here's to Lugo staying with the Sox for the actual length of contract. I do agree, I want to get used to who our shortstop is

Lugo has a vesting option for a 5th yr. If he reaches 2400 plate appearances over 4 yrs, and is over 600 in his 4th season, another 9 mil year (the 5th yr) will vest. 2 yrs ago when he was a regular in TB, he had 690 plate appearances.

Julio Lugo was on WEEI this morning. During the interview it was indicated that there will be a 3:30 press conference to introduce him to Red Sox Nation. No news on Drew as of now
