The sox will have to wait until Dec 1st to make it official, but the language in the contract will allow the sox to keep their first rounder.

As for Lugo

The herald is reporting that the sox are losing interest in Julio Lugo while Buster Olney and the globe reported yesterday that the sox are very interested and have actually submitted an offer.

The Globe and Herald always say different and oposite things. The herald said the Sox where fading in the Lugo sweepstakes and that the Dodgers and Mets where in the lead. Which makes no sense because both of those teams are filled with infielders. As far as Manny goes the Globe says good bye to him and the Herald says keep him.

Great to hear the the Sox could end up with Drew and nice to hear that it's a decent contract at 4 years. If the guy stays healthy it will be a great addition for the Sox. And this Friday is payday for me so I'll be going down to the Rogers Centre to buy advanced tickets for all the games the Sox are in town this year. As for the whole Lugo thing I've heard that the Sox have made an offer to Lugo. The Sox seem to be keeping the whole situation with Julio Lugo quiet as opposed to J.D Drew so who knows the Sox might be closer to signing Lugo than we think.

an outfield of wily mo pena coco crisp and jd drew really pumps my gnads

i'll open with pena being dl'd 1st till may 10th with scrotum strain, then crisp who will have that finger reset by june 10th and then drew will be out for the season come 7-15 with

faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak

combined with banjo hitting corners,a catcher who didnt hit his weight and an infield that isnt familiar with the term power,we are indeed heading nowhere fast offensively

no speed

power from 1 guy and 1 guy only

who got exposed when manny packed it in back in august

questionable health of all outfielders and still no depth??

i dont understand this at all

Same for me, trading one of the best hitters of our generation who has a "reasonable" contract and the only reason Ortiz doesn't get walked every time, and then signing a guy that's only play 135 games plus twice at 14-17 million a year for 4 years, and then shelling out 51 million to talk with a guy that after that whats 15 million a year for 3 years that hasn't even thrown a pitch at the major league level. The Red Sox FO is a bunch of idiots right now.

I think 14 million for Drew is a GREAT deal the way the market is this winter. If Pierre can get 11 million than Drew definitely deserves 14 million

If Manny isn't traded' date=' then Pena won't get much playing time, assuming Drew stays healthy (hefty assumption). We can't really sit Drew every time we face a lefty since we're paying him so much.[/quote']

But if Manny stays put, Pena provides a decent insurance policy for potential Drew injuries, Manny being Manny episodes and such. Not what Pena wants, I'm sure, but for the team, its a better offensive situation than being "Manny-less."

Why is Gordon Edes saying the Sox are switching Ortiz and Manny in the lineup?

I was just about to say something concerning today's article

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2007/01/26/drew_red_sox_finally_connect/?page=2

Why mess with success? Manny helps Ortiz be more at the top of his game. Even if Drew is playing the way he should, Ortiz would set a new career high in walks batting 4th

Actually Drew, unlike Trot we've been used to, can handle southpaws respectable.

Career vs Lefties

202 Hits in 766 ABs (.264 avg) (.369 obp) (.439 slg) (.807 ops)

Get used to this.

Last time I checked, he wasnt a hack offensively for you guys. He was a key cog down the stretch just so you Dodger fans can see your team make the playoffs

I wouldn't bet on that happening, sounds to me like Edes had a brain fart, theres no way they switch it around. That be a dumb way to set your lineup,

1. Lugo RH

2.Youk RH

3. Manny RH

4. Papi LH

5. Drew LH

They have to mix it up a little,

It will be,

1. Lugo

2.Youk

3. Papi

4. Manny

5. Drew
