Wang is not your typical pitcher. He has overpowering stuff. He can throw a plus plus sinker 95-98mph. That is flat out overpowering. But he is also a pitcher that does not shy away from contact. That means that he lasts longer. If you watch his games, you see what I mean. The guy routinely gets into the 7th inning with 70-80 pitches, which is unheard of in this game. But if you watch, when he needs a strikeout, he usually gets it. That is when he uses the sinker as a chase pitch and uses his slider as his out pitch. I think I'd take Wang over Beckett any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Both are young, but Wang is not afraid of bats and has one overpowering pitch that is unhittable even though you know it is coming. You really cannot beat that with a stick.

Wow, I can't believe NY bid 25 million for this guy. You only bid 30 million for Matsuzaka. This guy is said to be a number 4 or 5 guy in the rotation, maybe just a bullpen arm. Thats a bit hi, but with our Matsuzaka bid I guess we are even in the overspending talk this year:D Anytime someone bitches about how much we payed to talk to Matsuzaka, all we have to do now is point at Igawa's deal. Thank you Cashman:thumbsup:

You're serious, aren't you?

I won't say that the Sox started this salary explosion, because everyone has done it this off-season. This was a bad move by the Yankees, probably a bit worse than Matsuzaka, but not much.

I just don't understand how Zito and Schmidt are just sitting there still. Cashman and Theo have lost their minds.

This hole offseason has gone loopy. We should expect the unexpected. There sitting there because for some reason theres no rush on these guys, maybe it's to wait until after arbitration so they don't loose the draft picks. Either that or they have told all teams interested that there in no rush to sign. Also I think they will let some of the 2nd tier types sign deals to kind of set the market for the so called top tier pitchers( Zito, Schmidt).

Even with the bidding, the only SP to have signed is Woody Williams. Boras is no dummy. Hes really trying to get the red sox to pony up on Matsuzaka as it looks as if he will be the first domino to fall. If Matsuzaka sets the line with a 12-15mil a yr deal, you can expect the other ducks to start lining up.

Yes, I agree with you on that point. But some 2nd tiers are starting to sign too, Eaton with Phillies, Williams in HOU, and I think I read Padilla is really close to signing back with TEX.

I havent seen that rumor yet. Another is that Wolf signed in LA. Thing about those 2 is that they had their seasons wrecked by injury. I am telling you right now, Boras is waiting for Matsuzaka's deal to fall for him to move on Zito. He is like a snake in the grass, waiting for the right time to strike.
