Trot is the kinda player you want on your team . JD seems to be not liked to much .I go with Trot .

An aging right fielder who is awful defensively and can't hit lefties?

Yes, that's exactly the type of player I want on my team.

But he was great in the club house played hurt and never made excuses .He is way better than pena who we got to take over for him . I am not saying hes better than jd but overall with intangbles trot was better

Oh OK. Intangibles, ie things that don't affect performance whatsoever.

Oh and "played hurt"? He was on the DL quite often his last few years here. And there were times in the field when he looked like he was hurt, and that would severely affect his performance.

I'll take Pena, you can have Nixon.

This is such a pointless argument because in reality Drew is significantly better player than Trot Nixon. Sure Trot has started the year off hitting better then Drew (and hes started off the year hitting better than Manny also but that doesnt mean hes better than him). Drew whens hes playing up to par is a legit .900 OPS OF with some of the best RF defense in the league. Trot is barely (probaly isnt) an .800 OPS OF in fulltime at this point in his career and cant play defense at all anymore. I liked Trot Nixon a lot as a Red Sox but it was definetly time to move on and Id love to see your argument Crunchy telling us otherwise.

700 cmon youre better than this. As I said snapshots cant be the way to look at who's the better player. You disregarded Pedroia after his major league debut, little by little he is making a statement that he belongs in the bigs with the Sox. Now Drew & Nixon, with Drew you have a younger players who has exceeded Trot's stats with ease. Hell he's the better bet to play more games in a season. Drew is known for a streaky hitter, but I dont exepct this guy to fall flat on his face. 1 year after he put up a .300, 20 HR, 100 RBI season

I agree with you on trot. However, intangibles do affect players performance in a big way. Work ethic is an intangible, don't you think that has something to do with player performance. Sometimes you have to realize that you can't just base players on sabermetric statistics.

I think work ethic is entirely subjective, and therefore should not really be a way to judge a player's performance.

Fact is, the only reason Trot is looked upon so favorably in Boston is that he had a rep as a "Dirt Dog." JD Drew is criticized because people view him as "lazy." I'll say it again, I'll take a team of Drews over a team of Nixons every day of the week.

Answer the following: Do these players have good work ethic?

Curt Schilling

Barry Bonds

Roger Clemens

J.D Drew

Alfonso Soriano

Albert Belle

Frank Thomas

Manny Ramirez

Gary Sheffield

Also, define what exactly intangibles are.

Tim Kurkjian says that :

It is a game that requires doing "the little things," which can mean something as big as barreling over a catcher or as subtle as a whisper in the ear of a teammate after a good or bad at-bat.

Remember when Derek Jeter told A-Rod, "Be tough, clutch, and gritty," and then A-Rod proceeded to hit a homerun? All Jeter right there. Forget the fact that A-Rod has nearly 500 HR's, it was the great team chemistry vibe that made him hit the homerun.

Oh, don't forget David Eckstein. Never forget David Eckstein.

When he walks onto the baseball field he tells the other team, "WE'RE GOING TO f***ING WIN!"

And they do it.

:o

That is a winner.

You need 25 of them.

I would trade Ortiz for Erstad, because even though Ortiz is OPS over 1.000, Erstad outgrits him by infinite.

Dude, Erstad was a football player. A FOOTBALL PLAYERRRRRRRRR.

f*** your OPS, that's all the convincing I need right there.

So, I don't understand your post.
