Manny is a very underated outfielder who plays a solid out there. How many times during a season do we actually talk about Manny D. Only the national guys who dont really know what they are talking about. Anyways I would take Lee or Soriano if right field anyday of the week.

He hit .301 in 276 ABs last year. How much more consistant does he need to be for you to get off his f***ing back? Being able to hit .301 when you don't even know if you'll get in the game is pretty good if you ask me.

As for his fielding ... yes I know it's not good, but neither is Manny's. Just think about how many balls he's misplayed in LF that didn't go down as errors. But why doesn't it matter with Manny? Cause he hits 40 HRs ... so will Wily if you give him a chance to start.

Willy Mo had 11 Jacks in 276 ABs, so if you double that to about 540 or so, he hits 22 HRS. Why is everyone so convinced that he Will be a 40 HR hitter, that takes patience at the plate, he does not have that.

I'm not saying Manny is a bad OFer. I'm just saying that we're able to look past his mistakes because of his bat, and the same will be said about Wily if we let him start this year. BTW there are at least a dozen occasions every year where Manny makes a horrible decision/play in the OF.

You're forgetting that he never got regular playing time. He go a few ABs here ... a few there ... a start here ... a start there. It's hard to be consistent when you're in the lineup every 4 days.

I guess so, but I would rather have a proven comodity out there in a Soriano or Lee. Maybe in Start Pena in center if Crisp struggles again.

I'd rather be able to spend that 65-80 mill on pitching, but hey I guess I'm wrong ... lets get rid of this 24 year old bum and his modest contract ... he's never gonna make it. Let's go spend 75 mill on a 30 year old guy to replace him.

You want Wily in CF? God him and Manny next to each other would be a full blown disaster.

A lot of you guys complained when we traded Arroyo for Pena ... do you want that trade to go down as a complete waste?

Wait, what? Not a big portion at all on this partuclar thread were bashers of getting Wily Mo Pena. A700 brought us a question, who would you rather see in right field, Trot or JD Drew?

I have long been a supporter of Wily Mo and hoping to see him starting right field this April. As for the Boston media & other news outlets projecting Boston as Drew's most likely landing spot, Im not sure what the big picture Theo is envisioning here

Dude we had an entire several page thread about how it was a horrible move. Then several threads followed bashing Wily because Arroyo had more HRs. What board do you post on?

I liked the trade when it happened, but after seeing Wiy Mo in 2006, I am concerned. If the Sox FO is looking at Drew, maybe they are concerned about him, or maybe they are thinking of moving Manny. It's got to be one or the other. If they are moving Manny, Drew cannot possibly replace him. If they move Manny, they need to get Soriano.

Wily Mo is not as good a fielder as Manny, and please don't mention his offense in the same post with Manny's offense. Now, go slap your hands for typing this:

We overlook things with Manny, because he's an insane hitter. Didn't he hit .600+ or something like that against the Yankees this year. He can take the best pitchers in the game deep, including Mo. When Wily Mo can do those things, he can sit on the OF grass and pick daisies.

Well ya know it's gonna be kinda hard for him to do those things when he's only gonna get in the game because JD Drew got hurt again. You gotta give the kid a chance before you can say he's not good enough, or not this or not that. I'm tired of people saying this guy isn't good enough. How can you say he can't/won't do what Manny does ... did we even let the kid play more than 3 games in a row this year? Do you understand how hard it is to come off the bench and hit. Or to show up at the stadium not knowing if you're gonna play ... only to find out your starting and hitting 5th? He's 24 years old, and he's going to turn into one of the most feared hitters in the game sooner than later. As soon as he gets a chance to start full time he's going to explode, and I just hope that it's in Boston.

If Pena isn't starting in the OF this season it'll be a huge mistake ... which will be proven when he walks and blows up in a different uniform.

There you go again. Manny and Wily Mo in the same sentence. Go rub your hands down with some anti-bacterial gel. A hitter like Manny comes along once in 10 years. Pujols is the new Manny, not Wily Mo. Wily Mo is not even the new Mo Vaughn.

I dunno according to stories that came out last season Pujols is the new Barry Bonds.

You can't say what Wily is because he's only played 100 games once. You're really gonna regret bashing him when he blows up ... here are elsewhere.

Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Manny, and Wily. Sorry i don't have the time to go back through hundreds of threads to find my examples.

I don't remember who but someone even had the HR count in their sig. People were very anti-Pena.

only because we didnt foresee or extreme lack of pitching, or we forgot how much we took Bronson eating innings every 5th day for granted.

I'm willing to sit out on a limb and say if Wily starts this year he'll hit .260 with 25 homers and 90 rbis.

That would also come along with a .310OBP and a problem in the lineup. He may need to be the 5 hitter, and those #s dont do it.

Be fair Riverside, you know my comments have consistently centered on the trade, so my "bashing" has really been directed toward the FO, not WMP himself. While I don't share the optimistic viewpoint many here do regarding WMP's future with the Sox, I have also said I hope I am wrong and I'll pull for him like any other Sox player. It's the name on the front of the jersey I care about most.

Personally, I see WMP as SOMEDAY hitting .285, 30 HRs, 90-95 RBIs in a full season (while playing a mediocre OF), but I believe it'll take some time to get there. Again, I hope he proves my vision to be totally wrong, and I'll be the first to pat him on the back. I hardly would call this WMP bashing.

If he starts 140 games he'll hit 30 HRs without blinking an eye. At 22 years old he hit 26 HRs in 110 games. I don't think 40 is out of the question if he's an every day player.

from boston.com

The buzz around the meetings, though uncomfirmed, is that J.D. Drew is the player the Red Sox have offered a free-agent contract to. Sox officials did not deny that Drew is the one.

Drew's agent, Scott Boras, and his entourage have arrived in Naples. Epstein told the Globe that he had made a free-agent offer to a player but would not reveal his identity.

Id have to expect a Wily Mo Pena trade if indeed Drew is signed to a long-term contract. Wily Mo deserves the playing time, even though I wish it is in Boston, some lower revenue teams might give up pitching for him :dunno:
