Indians acquire Josh Barfield via trade

Seems like a mutually beneficial move. The Guardians have Andy Marte who they consider their third baseman of the future and were weak in second baseman. They tried to convert Trever Crowe but that experiment went horribly wrong.

 

Only question is: Who's San Diego's immediate second baseman? They've got Bellhorn and Walker as potential short term solutions but I'm not at all familiar with their minor league system.

Good deal for both sides but especially good for Cleveland who gets Barfield without giving up a huge piece. Kousmanoff (spelling) is a good prospect but as stated, they have Marte.

Late last month, reports started to come out that San Diego might be interested in acquiring Brian Giles' brother, current Braves 2nd baseman Marcus Giles

I have to say, I am extremely high on Kozmanoff's prospects and was impressed with Barfield with San Diego. Very good deal for both teams. I think Cleveland does get the better end because they have the better replacement

The Padres were quick to pull the trigger on this deal because they believed a Kouzmanoff for Sheffield trade was on the verge of happening

To me it was kind of a dumb move on San Deigo's part. Who is going to fill in at Second. Walker isn't great anymore and neither is Bellhorn. Barfield was much better than both of those guys.
