As great as it was to see the yankees lose, I never want to see Kenny Rogers celebrating and spraying champagne on tv for a full 3 minutes ever again. GO OAKLAND!

after reading the last 24 hours of posting and the whining thats coming with it its almost as good as winning the pennant again

a great % of the mentality of being a sox fan is our inbred hatred of the yankees

32,000 feet up in the highest points of lhasa tibet there are shaolin monks chanting

YANKEES SUCK

Am I the only yankee fan here that finds it funny that people who's favorite team finished 3rd are insulting the first place yankees? Idiots.
The Choking Yankees, who have made a habit of gagging in the post season.

Had you made the playoffs, I would seriously respond to any insults. Instead it just sounds like a bunch of whiny crybabies angry that their team finished in third place, so they decide to say s*** about the superior team.

No...we just find it funny that the 200 million dollar team can't win a playoff series and they've been knocked out early the past three years. We aren't the only ones who find it hilarious either, sox fans aren't the only ones laughing at this joke.

And a 140 million dollar team doesn't even finish second. What's worse?

Yankees because we actually have a youth movement going.

The Yankees, on the other hand, were the superior team as indicated by their AL best record. They were huge favorites to win it all and they were facing the Detroit Tigers who choked away the Division title by getting swept by the Royals on the final weekend. They went 22 consecutive scoreless innings and they sent 24 or 25 consecutive batters to the plate without reaching base, and to top it all off they got shutout by Kenny Rodgers for 8 1/3 innings. If you can't see that we would find humor in such a total choke, then you are just dense.

Oh, that's right. I keep thinking Detroit won the Central. But either way, that HF advantage rule is dumb. Just like in the WS.

As many of you probably remember after we lost to the Angels last year, I went into "Steinbrenner mode" for about a week. Tonight officially marks the beginning of "Steinbrenner mode" for me. However, there's a different feeling this time. Last year, and years prior, I was angry and mad. Thats not the case this year. I'm upset, sad, disappointed, and disgusted. I shed tears in the 8th inning; not after the game, but in the 8th f***ing inning.

I just want to share my thoughts on the series and the Detroit Tigers here in this thread, then I will move over to the Yankee Thread for the week-long conclusion of my fury.

The Detroit Tigers are amazing. Their fans are amazing. Jim Leyland is one of the most respectful men in Baseball, and he instills that in his players and staff. I wasn't a huge Leyland fan before this series, btu after seeing his first postseason press conference that quickly changed, and I truly admire him. Watching this series, and this game in particular I saw a familiar sight. I saw the energy and excitement in the Tigers that I saw in the Yankees for so many years. Those Tiger fans tonight were amazing. Those without tickets were on top of buildings, on top of busses, inside parking garages, and anywhere else they could get a view of the field. Those with tickets were AMAZING in there. They fueled the engine of the Detroit Tigers. I couldnt help but keep watching FOX after the game (rather than turn to the YES postgame) to see them celebrate. The passion was outstanding. As upset as I was because we lost, I was equally as happy for the Tigers and their fans. After what they showed me these past 3 days, and particularily tonight, i'm extremely envious. I know I always do a lot of supporting for the Yankee fans, but right now, the fans of the Detroit Tigers are the greatest fans in baseball. They have something that Yankee fans lack, and thats passion. We take so much for granted, and I didnt realize it until I saw the Tiger players out on the field spraying the fans with champagne, and slapping high fives, grabbing signs from the crowd and parading them around the field. It was an extraordinary sight.

For me, it's impossible not to root for the Tigers in the ALCS, and maybe even the World Series (if the Mets dont make it). But for now, I have to, as a baseball fan, sit back and enjoy great baseball for the next two weeks. The ALCS is going to be an AMAZING series, and i'm sure that the NLCS will be the same, as will the World Series. For now, i'm pulling for the Mets and the Tigers.

My disgust for the Yankees has never been this high, and for the first time in my life i'm ALMOST ashamed to be a Yankee fan. Some things need to change between tonight and the date in February that pitchers and catchers will report to Tampa.

...and as for you Red Sox fans who quickly jumped into this thread to taunt us and rub it in and say that we choked....f*** You!! As far as i'm concerned, you guys have no right to throw the "C word" at us after blowing your division lead and being forced to clean out the Fenway clubhouse a week earlier than us. So to you Sox fans who had the nerve to come here and taunt us, i'll say it again; f*** You and your Triple A baseball team. It's a shame I had to say this, because there are some truly respectful Sox fans here who I wouldn't want to offend, but had no choice because of you few *******s.

Wait 'til next year.

You're a good guy man, its obvious you really care about the yankees and I have to respect that.

The Yankees were better than the Sox this year. I know that for ME the Yankees' loss is a slight vindication of my view on the Sox FO this year. They didn't sell the house in order to get an Abreu or a Damon. So that's good. I think they made a fair evaluation of the talent they had, and knew that without everyone being healthy this team didn't stand a chance, particularly if guys like Papelbon, Wakefield, etc., were injured.

The Yankees were closer to championship caliber than the Sox were by July, especially with all of their injured players coming back and the sox late season injuries. In any case, I think both teams did the right thing, but the yankees should be more disappointed with their season. The sox admitted from the beginning that they were 'retooling'.

So, yeah, on one hand you can say "you guys didn't get to the playoffs" and you're right. We didn't. But there are always good teams that don't make the playoffs and there are plenty of admirable franchises that don't get there.

Even Jeter would say the goal isn't to get to the playoffs but to win the WS. The Yankees are not going to win the series this year.

I don't rub in the fact that the yanks lost---although i was thrilled! However before all the yank supporters rip us, at least we had an excuse. It was obvious the sox thought of this as a "rebuilding year" (they wanted to win, but not at any cost--they would rather look toward 07 and beyond).....with that said we were still in first place until we had a string of injuries that, from everyone i heard speak about it, they had never seen the likes of before. The sox basically lost 80% of their starting lineup and most of their staff. They couldn't overcome that (who could), and they were not built to overcome it. The yanks however went into the postseason healthy and rested with their staff setup the way they wanted. They just couldn't get it done, and will probably have the same team next year!

The Tiger series makes the Yankee-haters Bliss list at #9. We all know what #1 is.

BTW: Where are all the Yankee fans today. Please come out to play Optimist, 26 to 6, 26 Reasons to Hate Us, and Papelboner

The board was down whenever I tried to get on yesterday. And some of us do have better things to do on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.
