Last 34 - the ones after the first 40. Excuse my error in rounding to 40.

11 hits, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 19 TB

.326/.410/.559

EDIT: There was a HBP on 9/14 against Baltimore that didn't show up in the game logs. OBP has been corrected. And, that makes the TPA, the more important stat, 39 vs. 41 before that.

Can you remember the AB that he turned it around on, or at least the game? He has looked much more aggressive and assertive at the plate for the last week or two.

I believe it was Sep 9th vs Kansas City, which was the start of his recent 11 for last 34 streak. Coming into that game, he was in a mired 0 for 11 slump. His first AB he connected for a single up the middle. The "piece de resistance" that started it all came in his 2nd AB as he stayed alive through 9 pitches before belting one into the monster seats for his first career homerun. It also being his first major league multi-hit game course must have built up more confidence in his demeanor & stroke since then.

1997, Loretta's 1st full season in majors, he had committed 15 errors.

Loretta- veteran

Pedroia- rookie

I'm not saying that his rookie progress is slow. I just don't think the Sox can afford to be breaking in any rookie at the top of the lineup. If they give Pedroia the 2B job, I think they had better strengthen the lineup significantly so they can weather the bumps and slumps experienced by the Rookie. If he is able to hit the ground like Freddie Lynn, well ... then there's no problem. Very few guys can do that as Rookies.

I think Lugo would actually be a good fit in that regard. I shudder to think about his defense -- although with very good range. However, he gives the Sox a legit leadoff hitter with better speed than Youk and better OBP than Coco. The lineup could then go something like this....

Lugo

Youk

Ortiz

Manny

WMP

Lowell

Varitek

Coco

Pedroia

If Varitek bounces back, he'll probably be a better #5 hitter than WMP. If Coco bounces back that is a very strong end of the order.
