Ryan Howard has hit three home runs today against Atlanta, bringing him to 52. He also has one more at bat, at least. More if Atlanta ties the game, which is possible being only down by two with two innings left.

With Ortiz's missed time, looks like Howard has the home run crown wrapped up. The RBI race might be tighter.

Could've been one of the guys to have a chance to beat Aaron's all-time homerun record. Unfortunately, he started late...

Mostly because of signing Jim Thome.

Does a man who traded Craig Wilson for Shawn Chacon straight up seem to have a handle on what every player in baseball is worth to him? How about Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez for Xavier Nady? Or to go further back in time, what about asking for David Wright in return for Kris Benson, (apparently) rejecting Benson for Ryan Howard, and settling on Benson for Ty Wigginton? Or what about the now infamous 2003 Rule 5 draft? Yeah, didn't think so. Actually, not making the theorized Benson for Howard deal is a great example of how bad DL is at this. Supposedly the deal wasn't made because we already had Eldred rising through the minors at the same position. The thing is, with a short right field at PNC, Howard was more valuable to the Pirates at that point because he's left handed, despite the similar minor league stats he and Eldred had at the time. DL could've traded for Howard, then swung Eldred to a team while he still had value. Instead we took Wigginton, a crappy AA pitcher, and swapped prospects so that we could get one of our Rule 5 draft losses back.

Is there really a need to give examples of the Pirates sucking and being dumb?

Funny that they didn't mention the worst trade Dave Littlefield made ... Kenny Lofton, Aramis Ramirez, and Randall Simon(who wasn't bad at the time) for Bobby f***ING Hill.

No it's not. He knows how to dump big contracts, and that's what our owners want to do. The Pirates majority owner has a history of buying businesses sucking them dry for all their worth and then folding them. He is making money on this team every year simply because of PNC Park. He will keep the team until he can no longer make money and then attempt to sell them off. But by that time the Pirates should be arriving at about 30 consecutive losing seasons, and no one will be there to buy the team.

The current Pirates ownership will result in either MLB taking over the Pirates the same way they had to with the Expos, or the team will be folded.

I personally wish the team would have gotten moved instead of getting a new park, and I wouldn't be against them folding tomorrow. As much as I love baseball the Pirates make Pittsburgh a joke for the entire country.

With the Pirates and Penguins the Steelers have to do a lot to keep this city from becoming a complete laughing stock.

The Pirates being an original franchise will never be folded.

I think the same, but it's going to be impossible to find a new owner for this team. About half of the, formally, very strong baseball fan base here in Pittsburgh is dead, and the other half isn't very far off. Anyone from Pittsburgh around my age has now see 2 Stanley Cups, and a Super Bowl win, and 13 consecutive under .500 seasons from the Pirates. Remembering the Pirates greatness is limited to people who are over 50 at this point. The youth of Pittsburgh has absolutely no reason to care at all about the Pirates.

It's gonna be damn hard to find an owner for a team that has no fan base left. Especially knowing that you won't be able to move the team, because not only are they an original franchise, but we have a new park.

Sooner or later MLB will own the Pirates.

I dunno but this guy is looking more and more like he's going to hit at least 60 homeruns this year. Can you believe that this is what his first or second full season in the majors and he'll have hit 60 Homerun's that is ridiculous.
