any ideas as to who would be interested for Lorreta ? and also would he still be on the play off roster ?

tigers maybe twins. any playoff contender really....he would not be eligible for a playoff roster.

Posted
probably unlikely but think the twins would trade Matt Garza or maybe even Boof Bonsor Mark Lorreta? Both of them have really been good during their last few starts or maybe even Pat Neshak?

He could take a playoff spot only if a player is placed on the DL, right?

This is surprising news to say the least, maybe they can get something good in return like they just did in the Wells trade

What are you kidding. There is no way the twins would ever part with Garza or Bonsor for a month of Loretta.

no one else can confirm it yet but I hope it's true. Pedroia needs to play everyday from here on out.

yeah, you are right. his stick has been screaming 'play me everyday' for some time now.

agreed, the Boy Wonder is on his way, we should be thankful he was never traded away in a package deal for an Oswalt, Smoltz or Andrue Jones.

cause a 2b with the make of Eckstein is way more valuable than an ace pitcher

jacks...right on, in fact I'm laughing because I was so close to making the eckstein comparison in my last post. Not that there's anything wrong with exckstein, just that he's...well....eckstein..hard nosed, average ballplayer.

Sean, similar reaction in my house when I mentioned it to my son yesterday. He says "what happened, did a croc eat him?"

"No."

"Did he get attacked by a bear or a lion?"

"No, Kev, he got stabbed in the heart by a sting ray's barbed tail."

"A sting ray? We get to touch those things at Mystic Aquarium....oh my God, how lame. (pause) That's too bad. (pause) Can we go out and throw?"

"Sure Kev."

compassionate soul the boy is.

as much as we enjoy his shows and as much as we love wild life we still know the difference between being stupid and adventurous

if pedroia lives up to his potential and even exceeds it,what will that exactly be??

he dont run that much

he dont have that much power yet

he may hit .300 and he may have a great glove

i look at the 3

sanchez ramirez and pedroia

its painfully obvious that freddy sanchez is a great hitter and ramirez is going to be a superstar some day....

i dont think that dustin pedroia is as good but we can hope right?

right

we can hope

Red Sox scouts say that he reminds them of David Eckstein, so I guess that's the best we can expect. No one is saying that he remeinds them of Joe morgan or sandberg. He reinds them of a small overachieving average middle-infielder but Pedroia is not as fast. Well that sounds great. DFA Loretta...not.

well david eckstein is a very nice ballplayer with a hard nosed approach and an old school work ethic

as far as pedroia ascending to ecksteins level??

he'll need a couple hundred points on his avg to hit .289

ecksteins slugging a mean .328 and does in fact have a homerun AND a triple and 21rbi

and we want pedroia to live up to this guys #s??...if all works out well

great

why would we consider dumping loretta when its painfully evident this kid is overmatched this year??

loretta is what he is

an allstar 2nd basemen who can turn the double play and has a pretty good bat with no power

Dustin Pedroia was never included in trade rumors surrounding those 3 players. The only site I heard about trading Pedroia for Smoltz was on this site, posters doing fantasy baseball.

Apparently a Memo to Sox Prospects-- Kid if you cant get it done in your first season, you'll never get it done

Loretta is also a smart hitter and losing him will just create another hitting hole in this lineup next year. This is a key position that needs to be carefully assessed this winter. Who knows if Pedroia is just feeling pressure and needs time off or if he really is overmatched by big league pitching. I happen to think it's the latter.

honestly i have no problem with pedroia

however

from a competetive standpoint at this hour he cant hold loretta's jock

so why should we dump loretta and expose this kid to the fire which is the disgruntled redsox fan base?

im not sure what lorettas salary is or what the normal salary for a 34 yr old 2b makes

but as far as im concerned he should be resigned thru 07 and let pedroia work his way into the starters gig in 08....as it stands now hes completely lost

If there is any doubt by the FO that Pedroia can step in and perform up to Loretta's offensive level, they should re-sign Loretta. The lineup has already become weaker with the loss of Damon. I don't think weakening a second slot in the lineup would be very wise, especially since Loretta is one of the table setters for the big guns. Really, all the Sox have going for them is the top 4. Five through nine are not what they used to be in prior years when Tek and Nixon were more productive and Bill mueller was winning a batting title. If they screw around with the top 4, they will impair the productivity of Manny and Ortiz and the lineup will become very ordinary.

never claimed he was included in those trade rumors, although last year his name was bantied about regularly as a key piece of potential trades for established MLB players.

I was just using him as an example of the Sox "un"willingness to part with prospects...coulda said Delcarmen or Hansen or Lester or anyone of the superstars in waiting that the Sox feel they have in the org. That's all.

good point jsing

although theres not a huge market for this guy he will probably get at least a 2yr offer somewhere

i say if the price is right we should get involved
