no it wouldnt. The Gators are the far better team.

tonight they are, but don't be naive enough to think that they are hands down the better team.

Football is very frustrating for me because its always one-and-done. NFL, College. I can't stand it. Other than that I love football, but I would love to see a series. the strategy when the teams really got to know one another would be something else, as football already has so much strategy without teams playing multiple times. Best of three series like in soccer, one game per week. Potentially anti-climactic (2 wins and you eliminate the need for a 3rd game) but also potentially very exciting.

Outside the box, cause I'm bored by this sad showing. 5 sacks, yuck.

Teams sometimes just have crappy games and never get out of it/in it for the entire game. Ohio State looks absolutely dead and absolutely NOTHING like they did all season.

They're WAY better than this. Ginn would have helped but their sail just looks like it has holes in it. Its a horrible game.

Imagine if they did that in baseball? The 04 playoffs would have been lost 3 times before the sox started their comback.

Tonight went well...

Doesn't matter. If USC didn't overlook UCLA, I believe that they would have won tonight. Florida's looking good, but USC is my #1. I would take LSU over Florida also. With Florida winning tonight I just can't see how anyone can be opposed to a playoff.

I'm not trying to start an argument, but what do you mean, this proves there should be a playoff? Are you saying that anyone could win, and give teams a chance, or are you saying, any team can get lucky like Florida and end up winning? I just want to state, Florida didn't get lucky.

Well I know my intelligence level is low and all, but you're wrong. He went to nease high school in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. Where he went 1100 rushing 3300 passing his senior year. But I'm probably wrong, I'm stupid

Eh, Boise State would get destroyed (or badly beaten, anyway) by Florida, OSU, Michigan, LSU, or USC. They needed OT and some trick plays to beat Oklahoma and I wouldn't say that Oklahoma was near as good as any of the teams I mentioned.

Anyways... I picked Florida to win but... wow.

No, Florida definitely didn't get lucky. I meant that any team can win it and teams need to be given a chance. I mean, one could argue that Auburn has a legitimate shot on the basis that they beat Florida...

And then there are cases for LSU...USC...Michigan...and on and on and on

Until teams beat other teams in crunch time in order to advance, we just won't know who the true national champion is.

example. It is not like they fell apart early and made a mad rush that wasnt enough. They were beaten in the first half and beaten worse in the second. That Gators team just outmanned the OSU team. That offense had no chance. Ginn Jr., Rice in his prime, and Andre Reed wouldnt have helped that offense. Smith was getting hit out of his 7 step drop. He got about a second out of the 3 and 5 step. The blocking should be ashamed.

florida lost 1 game

on a blocked punt in auburn

this to me is more evidence on how good the sec is

smith had a great game against michigan but this fla secondary was too quick for his wideouts

teddy ginn?

comeon

t.o marvin harrison and anyone you can think of wouldnt have made a difference last nite

florida couldve scored 60 if they wanted to

losing ginn may have played more of psychological role than physical but it really didnt matter in the grand scheme of things

i do think 2 months between games is ridiculous but lets make no mistake about it

florida is better than ohio st

florida won the sec as well

they have the best coach in the country in my opinion although tressel is pretty damn good too

i would love to see the gators play usc or ohio play usc or lsu play florida again

a great year for college football has ended

SEC is the best conference hands down.Going through there is like going through the different stages of hell. Very tough Conf. And yea, there should be a playoff system. But the only reason I'm ok with this Bowl game, is the fact that it shut up all those Michigan Fans, and Ohio St. Fans.

the people in the big ten think they invented football

i go back to the archie griffin/cornelius green days of osu and they were always beaten by usc in the rose bowl or in the case of the 77 bama team who beat them in the sugar bowl 38-3

sure

they beat miami a couple years ago in ot and michigan beat washington st 10 years ago or so with brian griese but when it matters most, look for the big 10 teams to get beat when the chips are down

im of the opinion that michigan was better than ohio st despite the loss

i just think lloyd carr blows

Posted

i know a guy who know a guy who takes action

the line is at 7

"who do you like sean""

i dunno, osu beat a valid michigan team, texas and the rest of the big 10 but florida plays a tuffer schedule and has a lot more speed

in a game like this i'll take the points

""7 is nothing and ohios d will stop them and smith will attack with his legs and arms""

smith never saw a pro style defense with compatable speed like he will tonite

speed kills

and what the f*** was tressel doing??

going for it on his own 29??

Florida already beat LSU.

Florida's tough schedule prepared them for last night. When Ohio State was playing teams like Bowling Green and Northwestern, Florida was playing LSU and Arkansas.

Sorry, I meant to say that I'd take LSU over Ohio State.

I blame the media for this whole thing. The Media made Ohio State seem like such an amazing team. They put them up on a pedastool. I don't know why, but it just seems as if the Media(ESPN) is very biased towards the north, or something. I can't exactly make it out yet

OOO one more thing. I was really pissed off with Corso last night saying that Ohio Sate was very rusty, and that's the main reason they lost. Kirk is still a cock muncher, but he stood up for Florida, and said that's not it, Florida is just a better team period, and we didn't see that.

Not really. It's just that Ohio State didn't do anything to suggest that they weren't #1 until the National Championship Game. I don't blame the media, I blame the BCS for being so narrow. There would be a lot more hype about a lot more teams if a playoff existed.

I think the best scenario would be an 8 team playoff. 16 and 32 would be too unwieldy, and 4 just doesn't seem like enough.

It's a moot point anyway, the earliest a playoff could even be discussed is 2010.

This is absolutely true, and I am sorry if it sounded like I was trying to put you down personally (you know I come off like that sometimes... sorry).

You're absolutely right about the blocking and I think an overlooked factor was just how bad Troy Smith looked. It wasn't just the defense (although that was spectacular). Did you see how many times Smith would leave the pocket at full speed then try to wing a pass 20 yards and have it fall 3 yards short. He didn't overthrow ANYTHING, he underthrew everything. He looked like a QB with a torn rotator cuff.

Something else must have been going on for some of Ohio state's players. It wasn't just that they were missing blocks, it was like they were FORGETTING TO BLOCK. I'm sure you saw that one replay they showed 20 times of Smith getting blindsided by a RE who both got him from behind and didn't need to change direction the entire rush. He sprinted at full speed straight at Smith. that was not the real troy smith. The guy last night was a weak imitation of Troy Smith.

I think Florida would win 2 out of 5, but that would change too if you did it multiple times. It's a probability thing and OSU experienced a very improbable defeat last night. It reminds me of game three of the 04 ALCS when the Yankees demolished the Red Sox after two closer losses. Even three games in it wasn't an accurate representation of the teams overall, just that night.

I think football homers (Colin Cowherd) like to pretend that a football game--due to fewer games and inability to play multiple times a week--is somehow more decisive than a baseball game is. I understand the sports are different, but I think that the results would have been different numerous times if NCAA or NFL football required a series win rather than single elimination.

As bad as troy Smith was last night, I imaine most have seen chris leak suck the past few years too. Leak had a tremendous night and was very poised. Congrats to FLA. Tremendous night.

Florida really impressed me last night. I think Meyer having a month to gamplan and work on things he knew could exploit against Ohio State's defense.

Notice he didn't beat them vertically. he went horizontal and used his players' speed. That's something that never changes.

I thought when Ginn left the game last night, the air went out of Ohio State. The game was over when they missed that 4th and 1. Not having Ginn made it difficult for Florida's defense to respect the vertical passing game of Ohio State. The D ends pinned their ears back and bullrushed Smith all night.

But why didn't Ohio State commit themselves to the run? Their O-Line is huge. Run the ball between the tackles, and use it to open up some play action for Smith. Tressel called an awful game last night. I expected more from him, and his team should have been able to remain competitive even without Ginn.

However, if Florida doesn't take their foot off the pedal in the second half they coulda scored 60. Chris Leak has gotten a bad rep his whole career IMO. Zook was not a very good coach, and he struggled adapting to Meyer's offense last year. But they played the toughest schedule in the country this year and deserved their national championship. To see Leak go out the way he did was a great thing for college football. He never complained, even when he got booed at the start of the year. He earned the win last night. To think he could not do it again would be foolish.

Well with everyone on TV saying, Florida doesn't stand a chance, that pisses me off. I was watching Jim Rome is burning, and one guy said yea, Ohio st. by 17, all the guys from College game day had Ohio St. The boys from PTI, and Around the Horn...only people that gave florida a chance were florida fans, SEC fans(myself), and buckeye haters. But even the buckeye haters, didn't give florida a shot.

Posted

...so? That's what peoples' opinions are. I find it comical that it pisses you off as much as it seems to. You probably could have laughed it off in the back of your mind knowing Florida had a shot, and just waited until gameday to let your emotions loose. And by the way, your list is false. Everyone in my school had Florida, and that was from a completely neutral standpoint. So many people knew Florida had a chance and were also actually picking Florida. It's just by chance that the people on TV were dominantly picking Ohio State. There's nothing wrong with that. Now answer me this: can you really blame them for picking Ohio State? What did Ohio State do this season to suggest they weren't a legitimate #1 team?

You want a laugh? The matchup that most ESPN poll voters would like to see involves Florida and Boise State. Look, Boise State was a great story and I'm all for giving them a shot at the national championship. But if Florida put up 41 against Ohio State, they'll put up 100 against Boise State. I would have loved to see a Florida-USC matchup or a Florida-LSU matchup. I think LSU is just as good as advertised and with that defense anything is possible.

bc crushed boise st last year on the blue field in a bowl game

really

boise had a nice team and in 1 game may stand a chance against a legit top 10 school

however

when a 2nd tier team like bc runs your ass off your own field youre not ready for the big boy show and

despite a 13-0 record against the san joses and uc santa claras of the world

they're really not in the same league as a florida or an ohio st or even a wisconsin or an arkansas....that said

at 13-0 they did deserve a shot at the title despite being outweighed by 75 lbs a man on the line of scrimmage

Ok, I'll agree with you there. But a LSU vs. Florida game would be very unlikely with a BCS. Seeing how they both are in the same conf. If they didn't meet once during the regular season, they would play each other for the SEC conf. Championship. So that would be a strike against the losing team. And basically now a days, you have to go undefeated, and have a strong schedule for a National Championship.

florida beat florida st for the title in 97 after losing to fla state during the season

outside that i dont remember it happening before in a rematch

That was before the BCS, though. Florida needed to beat Florida State, but they also needed Ohio State to beat Arizona State. Had Florida State won, they'd have been National Champions. Had Florida State lost and Arizona State won, Arizona State would've been National Champions.
