When jeter was given the starting job, it was for a Yankee team that had been to the post-season once in 15 years. When was the last time the Yankees gave a rookie a starting job out of ST since 1996.

That 15 years is irrelevant. They were still the biggest spenders on the market. Jeter earned the job with his play on the field in the minors, and he got the job because smarter baseball people were in charge while Gluttonous George served his suspension from baseball operations. Pedroia's play in the minors warrants a starting job.

And if you were running this team we would have kept the entire 2004 team together for the next 4 years after that and they would have been on aarp after 2. Before you comment on Pedroia watch him play first. You have no idea about anyone in the Red Sox farm system.

and the sox would have at least 1-2 more championships. Jsing, I know you want to build from within, but being okay with forgoing 2 more championships to get younger makes you sound like a corporate shill.

Resigning the entire 2004 team would have been a business blunder

No, it would have been a commitment to the fans. You make the choice of being competetive for the next 4 years or being dominant for the next 2 and then competetive for the following 2. Schilling, Pedro, Lowe right now would be a dominant top 3 in the AL. There would be no question.

No, they wouldn't have.

Schilling was terrible last year, Martinez and Lowe would probably be league average pitchers here in the AL.

...and no one is arguing with JSInger about that. No one has advocated re-signing or keeping the entire 2004 roster intact. It's a ridiculously absurd aregument by JSinger. It would be like me characterizing JSInger's position as wanting to have a Marlin's type firesale by getting rid of all our stars and playing with all rookies and rule 5 guys. I don't make that riducously absurd mis-characterization of his position, so please stop misrepresenting my position. Keeping Pedro and Damon and possibly Lowe (although the need to retain him was much less significant) would not have hamstrung the Red Sox youth movement in the least. It might have prevented other moves such as the signing of Renteria and Clement, both of which can be characterized as abortions. It would not have affected the youth movement in the least, and they would be a better team today. The Sox would no doubt be leading the AL East.
