I agree. Just like Rivera has been the most valuable Yankee for the last decade. Rivera never did, and Papelbon never will as a reliever, get close to the award.

Great start by Jason Johnson today, very much unexpected. I liked how he had quickened his delivery to home plate. He was also making good use of that sinkerball. Jury is still out on his next scheduled start, facing his old team the Tigers at Fenway

According to the NY writer those number clearly don't matter. His reason for Papi not getting the MVP is because "he's only a DH". So obviously he's not looking at numbers.

He was at 91 pitches, and had the only good outing he's had in recent memory. Why send him back out there with a chance to blow it? And cancel out everything good he did today?

 

Also we're off tomorrow. The bullpen can rest then.

Well it worked out just fine. The guy was in a groove. He should've sent him out and gone batter to batter. If the first guy gets on, he's out of the game. Maybe he goes 1,2,3. Even if he only got 1 or 2, it would have been helpful. In the dog days the pen can use all the rest it can get. There was no reason to start emptying the pen at the beginning of the 7th.
