Technically you are correct...your initial post wasn’t directed toward me...although I’ll say more than superficially my response was appropriate as you insulted a poster I've had the pleasure of knowing for quite some time and whom I thought did not deserve to be insulted. Remember your posts in this forum are for public consumption and as such are fair game for comment.

I did read your post, and perhaps you were making some decent point(s), but when posts are laced with comments like “thoughtless post” or “I typed in drunken format so maybe you can understand it” I’d consider them inflammatory, not thoughtful. Some posters deserve such treatment. Those who put forth effort and thought into their posts, as his Crunchiness does, do not deserve that treatment. While he certainly doesn’t need me to speak on his behalf…and I’ll keep that in mind in the future…I responded nonetheless, suggesting you think who you are insulting before making the comment.

As far as “getting a rise out of me” I wouldn’t characterize the situation as such. It’d more accurate to say your total misunderstanding…deliberate or not…and absolute twisting of my comments, done to try and make me look bad, wreaks of cowardice and I wasn’t going to allow you to misrepresent my post to feed your own desire to “get a rise out of someone”. Fact is you misread my post and bashed me for your misunderstanding…and that, sir, needed to be answered.

As Mr. Crunchy has pointed out, this type of trivial bickering isn’t typically part of my game…but I do stand up for myself and others when unjustly ripped…and will continue to do so. At this point, though, I’m through with this silly quarrel, this inane dispute, this ridiculous tiff, this….you get the point. Time to let this go.

Yeah, I sent you a PM with an apology, not sure if you got it. I just get frustrated with some people on here, and sometimes rant not caring about what I actually say or to who I say it to.

Like Yezir said, back to subject.

are you testing me on my baseball knowledge??

money ball is a concept of using obp and ops rather than a stop watch and other pertinent stats like batting avg and rbi's which are dismissed

money ball has no room for the dave roberts of the league

kevin youkilis would be a prized possession in money ball

it doesnt steal bases

it doesnt bunt either

it dont worry about strikeouts

bill james and billy beane i believe are the premier architechts of the stats system that you call money ball to evaluate talent.

the book was writtne by michael lewis essenially pontificating all thats billy beane i believe

i didnt read it

i knew enough of the great billy beane after the twins removed them from the 02 season as the a's were heavy favorites to win it all

the next billy beane playoff series victory will be his 1st

ya limited payroll

ya hes in the barbed wire capitol of america

ya oakland is the worst city in america not named newark

i also didnt read

HOW THE UFOS BROUGHT DOWN THE TOWERS either

i find them both to be absurd

i find money ball flawed and i think that billy beane and the a's,despite having tremendous regular season success just like the atlanta braves, have greatly underachieved every fall

just like the atlanta braves

with the exception of the 95 season and tommy glavines game 6 shut out the braves are the buffalo bills X14

moneyball does nothing for me

i prefer small ball or the speed game personally and anyone who thinks the team with the 2nd highest payroll in the game is playing moneyball needs an education in arithmetic.

And you'd be wrong.

Moneyball is the art of finding what player in MLB is undervalued at the present moment, and building a team around that concept. OBP was undervalued in the mid-90's. Beane built a team around that. Defense was undervalued in 2004, Beane built a team around that.

Besides, tell me once again why walking is a terrible thing to do?

Devil Rays - .312, 29th in runs scored

Cubs - .320, 30th in runs scored

Pirates - .329, 28th in runs scored.

It's not a geeky thing anymore. The more you get on base, the more runs you scored. It's that simple.

(Also, quit being a moron and throwing Dave Roberts out there. If Dave Roberts played for the A's, he'd steal 30 bases. The A's send runners, but only those who are good basestealers. Read the damn book, then make an argument.)

when billy beane wins something in his life i'll buy it

until then its useless fiction

i mean really

do AL WEST DIVISION CHAMPION banners impress you that much or was it scott hattebergs success in oakland that did it??

i maitain and reiterate again

billy beanes success is based on his pitchers being healthy

when they spoke of the big 3

i dont recall frank menechino and randy vellarde on the list

nor do i believe i'd build a team around matt stairs

if i were a gm

i wouldve found a way to keep tejada on my team for 12M a year

i dont dispute the mans ability to judge talent,or is it value,or whatever you choose to call it

i do think hes underachieved based on the players hes had over the years

Sorry, that's where you lost me. Tell me again how you're going to keep Tejada on a team that's payroll was $40 million.

Crespo man......its obvious he has no clue what moneyball is. He lives in spoiled RedSox nation where we have a 100+ payroll and cant understand that other teams have to find other ways of remaining successful with budgets under 50 million dollars. In every post hes made regarding moneyball hes seemed to understand the basics, but not comprehend the fact that these teams just dont have the money to make a catastrophic mistake.

If Oakland had Foulke now, theyd be screwed with his 9 million dollar salary.

If they had a Clement, theyd be screwed.

They cant afford to make mistakes in evaluating talent, which is why I think it is incredible that they have been this good, for this long after losing star player year after year and competing with teams with much bigger payrolls.

He just doesnt get it, and if he does...he doesnt appreciate the incredible job they do over there.

what is so hard to grasp??

they have a limited payroll and they did well drafting pitchers

y'all think this s*** is rocket science?

that oughta get the season ticket holders beating down the door for next year

""HE OBVIOUSLY DOESNT UNDERSTAND""

ya

put randy velarde and matt stairs types behind cy young winners and you'll win a few

no s*** eh

put me and 8 of my beer buddies behind cy young winners and you'll win almost as many

gimme a call when billy beane wins something outside the al west

until then dont bust my balls about billy beanes genious

the man hasnt done anything that hasnt been done before except lose in the 1st round with 3 cy young candidates starting for him

have you taken this into consideration

or do i fail to understand this as well??

im not arguing about their small market status but heres some #s

jason kendall is making 11.4 mill this year

chavez 9.5

esteban loaiza is making 6

kotsay 7

everybodys friend jay payton makes 4

5,000,000 tied up in mark ellis and joe kennedy

theyre payroll is well over 60M

i think they had room to at least try and keep tejada

at least insult him with a low ball offer

for chissakes

before you build the billy beane wing in cooperstown shouldnt he at least win a f***in playoff series that hes a 4-1 favorite in as he was in 02??

Lets fire Tito im onboard.

Fixed it for ya.

Tito has too many man crushes, and doesn't know how to manage a bullpen. Granted, he doesn't have much to go with, but even in 2004 I had my share of dislikes about the man.

Lets clean house and fire both of them

Bring back Duke and give him $125 million and this team will be in the playoffs every year.

wow. You can really tell the bandwagon fans from the real fans when times are tough. You, my friend, are an idiot.

For real.

This team has been to the playoffs four years in a row. This year was supposed to be a retooling year.

I think all the FO drama last fall forced the Sox to get a late start in the offseason. Even so, it's hard to understand why they didn't get a decent lefty in the pen, especially with the yankee lineup.

Bronson has had a bad second half, but he did pitch well last week in St. Louis. That deal was Theo looking ahead to 2007 and replacing Trot. The problem now is Pena doesn't look like an everyday player, and now Theo had to go get Hinske.

He also can't preach the pitching and defense sermon if he goes out and gets "bargain-reject" middle relievers.

Theo is walking a thin line here trying to build two years ahead and still make the fans paying the highest ticket prices in baseball feel like they're getting their money's worth. From what I read in the paper's Theo has struggled with LL on a "win now" philosophy. We're only two years removed the title, he needs to be cut a little slack.

The only shortcoming I see is an underestimating of their biggest rival. Any Sox team Theo builds must be built to beat NY.

They would've made the playoffs that year, but for the injuries to Pedro that wiped out his season and Varitek. It was a retooling year. Try this link. You can see more than the one year. Look at the last year the Sox won a division-- 1995. Duke had the 18th highest payroll. When the Sox went to the playoffs in 1999 and 2000, he had the 5th highest payroll. He had the 2nd highest payroll only once-- 2001. Key Injuries, 2 idiot managers and Carl Everett destoyed that teams chances. After that year Duke was fired and Theo has had the second highest payroll for 5 straight years. In that last two years he's managed to dismantle a champion and feared competitive team and reduce them to a $120+ million joke.

700 is banned from being a Red Sox fan for the 2007 season.
I appreciate the kind gesture, and i should probably save myself from additional aggravation, but I can't help myself. I'll make the trip to Ft. Myers in March and be all optimistic no matter how the FO massacres the off-season.

I'm working in Tampa now -- and in the process of tranferring from UCF to USF. If all goes well and we get the house sold, I might be in Tampa by then. With two rugrats and school, I haven't had the time to make the trip to Ft. Myers from Orlando. It will be easier if I've relocated to Tampa by then. We'll have to get together for a few beers if I'm down that way next spring.

Theo didn't know Beckett would become Josh Landsdown.

the stupid thing i find with the signing of beckett is he did it after his great outing against KC on july the 19th, and at the time beck still hadent even proven himself he could pitched against great teams yet , and what do you know he still cant, so know if he continues to suck we are gonna be stuck with another big salary we cant get rid off

edit: beckett's ERA is over 7 since the deal

Only 9 of the 32 have been at Fenway. Attempt at wit: DENIED. Looks like your tizzy about only being called an imbecile because you are a Yankee fan was a little misplaced.

However his point was taken, unfortanatly

The only thing denied is beckett having a sub 5 ERA. It doesn't matter where they are, he still gives up a lot of homers, and thats the point of the nickname.
