According to ESPNNEWS its Chacon for Wilson. I have a hard time believing it. They pretty much gave Wilson too us if thats the case.

If the Pirates are gonna be this foolish today how about the Red Sox go get Jason Bay for Brandon Moss, David Murphy and Edgar Martinez. At least it will be 3 more prospects than they acquired from either the Mets or Yankees.

According to ESPN, the Yankees have acquired Craig Wilson from the Pirates for Shawn Chacon.

 

Dave Littlefield needs to be fired. Preferably a year ago. Wilson probably won't have much fantasy value while being used as a bench player in New York. Chacon should step into Kip Wells' spot in the Pirates' rotation. Jul. 31 - 3:58 pm et

Well as I said when discussing the possibility of this move a few days back in the Yankee Thread (where I also discussed the Abreu trade. Both of these make me look pretty good:D ), I really like Craig Wilson. Not only for his offensive ability, but also for his defensive versatility. I stressed all throughout the offseason the importance of a third player capable of catching; now we have one. He can play first, the outfield, and in an extreme emergency can play third. He is obviously a defensive downgrade over Andy Phillips, who Michael Kay predicts will be optioned down to Columbus.

 

When it comes to this deal, it really was extremely unnecessary. The only thing that stops me from getting upset about it is that I, personally, like Wilson a lot and suggested we get him all offseason and into the regular season.

He's a massive upgrade over Phillips. Just like Abreu is a massive upgrade over Williams/Cabrera. Kudos to Cashman. Maybe he should have traded Chacon for Zach Duke though.
