If this gets done, imagine an outfield of Dye, Soriano and Podsednik (moving to CF). I hate the White Sox. The Nationals have an interest in Brandon McCarthy.

They are also close to obtaining MacDougal from the Royals to bolster their bullpen.

I thought they'd go for a pitcher. That starting rotation doesn't scare anyone right now. Contreas is the only pitcher with a sub 4 ERA, and Burehle is hovering around 4.5.

I don't see what Soriano is going to accomplish. Though he'd be sizeable upgrade over Anderson.

I like Brandon McCarthy...I wouldn't do that trade. If this goes down he will have a nice career in Washington.

I agree. Him in the AL would become the next Ted lilly, Scott Kazmir, Rodrigo Lopez for the Red Sox. This move is a win-now deal for the Chi Sox, it would be their loss in the end if they let go of him

The ChiSox have been waiting for Detroit to falter.. Im not sure its going to happen.

So does that make them push more on a trade like this?

That would be a brutal lineup.

i would have thought that they would be pushing hard for Jason Schmid or maybe even Livan not more offense they should know that its pitching that wins games

Soriano's worth would be maximized in Chicago on the White Sox, IMO. Bandbox ball park with the biggest HR park factor other than Coors field over the last 3 years, and a manager that will give him the green light. There are worse places for him to go.

I'm not sure how smart it is to give up someone like McCarthy for a free agent to be in Soriano. I understand what Kenny Williams is doing. The pitching market is thin so if you cant upgrade over guys like Vazquez and Garcia then why not make the offense stronger.

The scouting report on Soriano hasn't changed since '03. He's really not that good.

Not that good? I disagree, his numbers have been very good. He has not lived up to his full potential, yes, but those numbers would be welcome in any lineup.

Throw him curveballs out of the zone. Hell, how can Kyle Snyder strike him out more than once?

ESPN reporting ChiSox have indeed acquired MacDougal.

White Sox GM Ken Williams said Monday that Brandon McCarthy, who is rumored to be going to the Nationals in an Alfonso Soriano deal, won't be traded.

"I have no intention whatsoever of trading him in any sort of deal," Williams said. "He's very much a part of our future. To answer your question, Brandon is not going anywhere." Commenting on Tim Kurkjian's original report, ESPN's Keith Law said McCarthy would be a part of the deal. That no additional details have come out since the afternoon has us wondering just how "extremely close" this really is. Jul. 24 - 8:45 pm et

30 HR's in spacious RFK isn't good? What else does he have to do?

Yeah I dont understand how they get Soriano ESP if the Tigers include Humberto Sanchez in a deal for Soriano. It doesnt make much sense. The only thing I can come up with a is a 3 way trade.

He was traded for Brad Wilkeron and Terrmel Sledge before the season. Before that he was traded for Alex Rodriguez. Its extremely hard to understand what Alfonso Soriano is really worth but I would not trade Brandon McCarthy for him or Humberto Sanchez.

I would never trade top prospects for a free agent to be.

soriano is wily mo pena with a better glove and more speed

you can get him out with pitches outside the strike zone all day

Apparently, it isn't easy as it looks.

If Wily Mo Pena is going to hit 31 HR's with a .361 OBP, wow that's terrible. I miss Bronson.

soriano has 31hrs in the nl east

great #s for sure,in fact theyre awesome

how would they translate over here in a pennant race??

i know rfk is a gigantic park but ive seen soriano play for a long time now

hes a guy who will bite on pitches over his his head and in the dirt

you can get him out if you have to

he isnt to be confused for pujols or manny and my point was hes a tad inconsistant despite his tremendous #s

now if this kid gets patient??

we've been saying this for 6years now, much like wily mo

How Im feeling with Sox fans on here/radio/abroad clamoring for Theo to trade Dustin Pedroia for a pitcher who maybe will stay for a half season or so. Theo has learned his lesson with Freddy Sanchez, a move he hates himself for

We cant yet fully gauge on that trade until Wily Mo is given a starting job with Boston. Him being a platoon partner and on the DL for 2 months is not enough to say that it was a bad trade

watching arroyo stick 8 innings of 2 run ball up the mets ass thursday was enough for me to see it was a bad deal

145 mostly quality innings from arroyo

how many quality innings have we got from our 4 or 5 this year??

think of the bullpen being taxed to death

think of tek having to break in 8 different pitchers because of this deal

think its hurt his offense??

i dont know

i do know i'd rather see arroyo pitching with kapler on the bench than jj johnson lenny dinardo or any of the other scatine going with pena on the bench

im of the mindset we're good enuff to win it all now, this year and dumping arroyo for pena isnt conducive to that mindset

I think Soriano is a different player. He's on pace to more then double his walks. Maybe he's learned something, maybe not, but if you've got a chance to acquire this guy for Lance Broadway or Brandon McCarthy, I'd do it.

Sarcasm.

I fully endorse the Pena trade. I don't think Arroyo's stuff translate into an American League winner.

Oh, and if Pena ever approaches a .361 OBP, Theo is a god.

chris carpenter won the cy in the nl last year

he was waived by toronto a few years ago because he sucked

tommy glavine cant break a window anymore

he may win 20 in the nl east

the pitching in the nl is indeed that bad

that being said

soriano has developed a bit more patience at the plate but hes not to be confused with youkilis just yet

I do not believe that my Sox are going to acquire Soriano. The only place he can generate power from is the leadoff spot, and they'd have to move Podsednik, a defensive liability, to centerfield (which is where you put your best glove man in the outfield). He has played CF before in Milwaukee, but he didn't do it very well. Personally, I'd like to see them move Vazquez for a couple of bullpen arms and move McCarthy into the rotation.
