Just ended, and may I say, what a s***** program. Sox ended up winning 5-3, but those footage clips were all over the place. Cutting to the crowd or Steinbrenner the split second after a pitch is thrown, even the Sox celebration was from the 2003 ALDS in Oakland. Comments?

You wasted your f***ing time by watching this gay-ass show.

What kind of study was done to find the result? I could tell you the Yankees would have had trouble scoring. That Red Sox bullpen was ultra hot in that post season ESP Timlin and Embree and that Williamson trade was big(From what I remember).

Were you expecting better, I thought they did a decent job piecing it togther seeing how it never happened. All though i did think it was funny, how one pitch Varitek was catching and then it was mirabelli behind the plate. They also said that in 100 simulations the redsox one 82 percent of the time.

The point I thought was interesting was how things might have been different in 2004 and beyond, had the outcome been different with the Sox winning. Like would Grady Little still be managing the team, and would the Sox have gone out and acquired Schilling and Foulke.

The Red Sox would stop improving their team?

Exactly. How ironic is it that because the Sox lost the 2003 ALCS the way they did, it led to Grady’s contract not being picked up, which led to Francona being hired. It also fueled an effort to go out and acquire an ace (Schilling) and a solid closer. My point was that had the Sox won the ALCS then there’s a good likelihood that they wouldn’t have won the WS in 2004.

I don't understand why the Red Sox would stop trying to improve their ballclub. They'd still make a play for Schilling, and they'd probably sign Foulke after the disastrous bullpen by committee expirence.

They wouldn’t stop trying to improve the club, but I think Francona’s decision to come to the Sox was largely based on his past relationship with Schilling. It’s possible that had Grady been brought back for 2004 that Theo never would have pursued Schilling.

Other way around, Schilling coming here had a lot to do with Francona being hired beforehand.

Are you positive? I thought Schilling’s contract was finalized around Thanksgiving 2003 and Francona’s contract was signed in early December 2003.

Right but Schill was assured that Francona was going to be hired

Yeah, it was all done hand-in-hand, within a very close time frame.

* Nov 28, 2003: Schilling trade

* Dec 4, 2003: Francona hired
