The Sox probably don't have any certainty about how long he'' be out. It's probably a hairline fracture that will heal in a couple of weeks, but when he returns will will depend on how quickly the discomfort subsides.

The Globe says lefty Kason Gabbard is going to get teh start against Seattle in place of Wake, here's his report:

Lefty suffered nagging injuries over his first few year in pro ball. When healthy, Gabbard has a high 80s sinking fastball that hits the low 90s, with a plus changeup and curveball. Mature with good mound presence.

Sounds like a left-handed David Pauley.

apparently, he's expected to miss three weeks to a month. well, better now than in september. If Wells continues on his path of recovery, the rotation should look very very good for the stretch run.

Wake has been ailing now for at least 2 to 3 weeks. It seems strange that it took this long to actually figure out what’s wrong. I wonder how it happened…

I forget which game it was, but Wakefield got hit in the ribs by a comebacker a while back. I assume that's what cracked the rib, unless it happened outside of baseball.

All you can do for a cracked rib is wait until it is healed. I'm thinking Wake will be out for about 2-4 weeks.

I saw that Wake has been officially put on the DL, but no countermove has been made yet. The speculation is Gabbard will be called up. But since the Sox seem to be taking their time in replacing the open spot on the roster, can we read between the lines and assume a trade is in the works?

I wouldn't assume a trade was in the works, but I'd definatly say it's a possibility. I'm guessing if there was nothing in the works Theo would make the call up ASAP so the pitcher can be comfortable with the fact that he'll be making a start. I'm not totally sure that a trade is coming, but I think Theo is working on a few things and possibly trying to get a trade done before Wake's spot comes up again.

Gabbard is getting called up. Its basically pretty much set in stone. I don't they will make a move with nothing out there.

Well thank God you have that direct line to Theo so we know exactly whats going to happen.

The Sox with the pitching matchups they have this weekend will be very lucky if they win 2 of 3. Lester is making his return home to the Pacific Northwest to pitch in front of family and friends on sunday so I'm hoping he steps up big time.

He pulls the strings. That's why he states everything with such conviction.

Now come on lets not be silly. Of course he isn't the GM ... he just has a direct line to Theo's office.
