Bernie does have the range of a crippled snail, but Mo doesn't have much tonight either. At least in Mo status.

Nevertheless, Yankees win.

Can someone do the WC math, if the Sox win please?

Game over. Rivera gets the job done.

Now, let's pray for some Royals magic.

I assume the Red Sox would be tied with the White Sox.

I would love a 6 game lead by the Fenway series. Boston is struggling right now, but I would not put it past them to sweep us at their home.

3 games up and 4 in the loss
You guys brought in seasoned reinforcements and major league ready prospects not just at the deadline, but all throughout the season. When the Sox needed help, they went trolling for garbage and they are getting what they deserve.

It's amazing how the Yankees were able to keep up with the Sox throughout the season. They made every move necessary to keep their championship hopes alive for THIS SEASON. The Red Sox basically threw their hopes for this season down the gutter by not doing anything to help this team at all. No trade, nothing at all to help us. Meanwhile, the Yankees have kids like Melky Cabrera and Andy Phillips step up, and they go out and get Abreu and Lidle. That is what champions do. The way they've played through this season while missing Sheffield and Matsui, basically 2 of their top 3 reliable bats, is absolutely impressive.

I hate the Yankees with everything I have, I really do. But goddamn, do I respect them.

Nice line, Wes Mantooth. Fact is, the way the Yankees got their reinforcements is what amazes me. Abreu, a perennial .420+OBP, .300+AVG, 20+HR, 100+RBI, 100+R, 25+SB, .900+OPS guy with a pitcher who has averaged over 6 innings per start for 4 players. One 19 yr old draft pick from last yr who cannot hit. One 27yr old lefty reliever who will be a lefty specialist one day. One 18 yr old catcher who is barely hitting his weight. One young middle reliever who will never see the light of day in the MLB. That was a free trade. That leaves their rising farm system essentially untouched and adds to their talent at the MLB level. It was almost unfair.

Wells is a big league pitcher, but he's gettin' up there in years. I would prefer not to rely on him as our #4 starter. #5, fine, but not 4. If he can just keep us in the games, same with Johnson, that's enough.

Why are people so easy to give up on Wells? Give him 2 starts at the major league level, which have already come and gone, and see what happens from here on out.

Wells is a great pitcher when he is healthy. He can win games and eat innings especially down the stretch. The problem is, I do not think he will ever be healthy again.

He looks fine and healthy when he's out there. He probably needed a couple starts to get back into form, and he'll probably be a solid pitcher for us down the stretch.

After all the years of being that overweight and putting that much stress on his leg, do you think there is any functionality left in that knee? He may be at a point where that knee is about as good as scrap.

Tomorrow night is a key game for him, he obviously was terrible in his first start and gave up a lucky 1 ER in 6 innings (5 runs and 8 hits) last start. If he can't get it done against Baltimore, (and when I say get it done, I mean at least 6 IP and around 2 ER, 3 at most) then he's just about done.

Well, whether we would like to accept it or not, he's looked really good at times. His TB outing was impressive until Ortiz made the error, and it went downhill from there.

Besides, he's better than any of our other 4th or 5th starter options. I'll take Wells over Johnson/Snyder all day long.

By the way, I'm loving Snyder in the bullpen.
