Although I hate him on the field, hopefully he doesnt end up seriously hurt because of this. Hopefully the surgery they are doing now goes well.

what an idiot.

I'm too worried to go off on you for that. Just know that I'd like you to f*** yourself.

Hopefully Ben can recover, and put the f***ing bike away.

I'll actually be driving on the same road as the crash on my way to work in about an hour. :(

Well everyone told Ben not to ride his bike during his playing career, so it is his fault. Terry Bradshaw was pissed at Ben for riding it and he told him not to untill he retired.

quote from Big Ben after the Kellen Winslow accident in 05...

"He (Winslow) talked about being a risk-taker and I'm not really a risk-taker. I'm pretty conservative and laid back, but the big thing is to just be careful," Roethlisberger said at the time. "I'll just continue to be careful. I told him we don't ever ride alone, we always ride in a group of people, and I think it makes it even more safe."

Luckily for Ben, it looks like he only got a few gashes on his head and possibly a broken jaw....

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has detailed the severity of Ben Roethlisberger's injuries.

"Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground," police said. A plastic surgeon has been summoned. ESPN's John Clayton surprising put a timeline on the injury already, projecting Roethlisberger needing 7-8 weeks of "downtime" to recuperate and only "some" knee damage. That timeline would have Roethlisberger back before the end of training camp Jun. 12 - 3:36 pm et

Doesnt sound to good, wonder how bad his knee injuries are

It's his damn fault....he was told not only by cowher but many others as well i'm sure to ride carefully and with a damn helmet. only an idiot rides a motorcycle without a helmet.

Hope its not that bad, one of my favorate Jets Jamie Henderson got into a bad motercycle accident a few back, and it ended his career, and he coulda been great. Luckily, seeing roethlessberger isn't hurt to the extent of the year, this happen with time to recover before the next season.

His knees are badly injured, this probably will give speed bumps to his rising career. I do hope he recovers from this.

Mchammer, we are all not sick individuals but yes he is an idiot for doing so. Hopefully this will rattle Pennsylvania's dumb ass goverment that riding a motorcycle without a hemlet is not OK. The hell its not, Ive had an uncle die in a motorcycle accident. Guess what... a helmet wouldve saved his life

Its not "Steeler hating". Id be saying the same things if Tom Brady had such an accident. Granted, Massachusetts is smart enough to post this law, and the Patriots ban all players from riding them

Nothing wrong with calling the man an idiot. It's the truth. Quite frankly, he's lucky to be alive. Not 'hating on him', and I hope he'll make a full recovery, but he has an obligation to his team and he let his teammates down.

Does anyone know if there are terms in his contract that would have forbid him in engaging in activities like riding a motorcycle (without a helmet)?

I remember when Aaron Boone blew out his ACL playing basketball while on the Yankees payroll. Apparently this violated the terms of his contract and he was summarily released by the team.

Kellen Winslow lost a shitload of money after his accident because he had a special term in his contract that said he couldnt ride his motorcycle.

Rothlisberger doesnt have that special term, but he does lose money if he gets injured in anything not football related.

Update on Ben's condition

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Tribune-Review disagree on the severity of Roethlisberger's knee injuries. PFtalk and ESPN's John Clayton confirm the Gazette's report that Roethlisberger's broken jaw was the most serious injury he suffered. He reported Ben would be ready for the season. Jerome Bettis is quoted saying, "Another good thing is it is minor enough that it shouldn't affect him on the field this fall." A broken jaw usually has to be wired for 6-8 weeks. MC Hammer, not to offend you or anything, but Ben is a f***ing idiot, plain and simple. I love the guy, great player and team guy, but honestly, how dumb can you get. Riding a motorcycle with no helmet? This should be used as an example for all athletes that they ARENT invincible, and they are suspect to injuries just like everyone else.

I wish Ben a speedy recovery and that he can get back to his playing form.

I just hope he won't be the Jay Williams of the NFL. Well, right now he is. Get well soon.

I found this article with a video that has Bradshaw warning Ben about the dangers back in May 2005.

Here's the link http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/sports/4494368/detail.html

good find, can't wait to see what Bradshaw and Cowher say about this.

theres some good video on that site about the actually crash. According to them, Ben was driving a Suzuki Hayabusas, which they said is the fastest bike you can buy.

He's a great quarterback, and I hope he gets better, but what an idiotic thing to do. Riding without a helmet with everyone telling him to stop riding in the first place, and being a quarterback making millions of dollars that he may lose....idiot.

I hope he gets better and plays to the best of his ability, he's a very skilled guy, and I realize that this incident doesn't make him a bad person (like the guy in the video said), but it was an idiotic thing to do.

http://msn.foxsports.com/id/5688554_7_2.jpg the car he hit

to go along with losing almost all his teeth, a broken jaw, a 9-inch laceration on the back of his head, injuries to both his knees and a fractured sinus cavity bone, he also broke his nose.

its the Steelers website but they have Ben traveling when a vehicle coming the opposite direction turned left in front of him, Ben was unable to stop and hit the passenger side of the vehicle-sent him flying up and into the windsheld

Looks like the steelers have a Winslow on their hands.

Well, this does suck hard. I just read his knees are not that bad - which is great, but the simple fact that wearing a helmet would have possibly prevented the broken jaw, shattered face, missing teeth and 9 inch head wound, hours of plastic surgery and rehab, proves he's not that bright.

It's not how good a driver you are, it's how bad the other drivers are. And motorcycle drivers ride their bikes as if they were cars - and they're just not. Need more proof?

Posted

I just watched the video and man that motorcycle is seriously messed up. He's lucky if he only has a concussion from this.

We should all hope he's ok, regardless of what team you root for.

I'm not in favor of legislation to make wearing a helmet required but you are insane to not wear one.

Anyways, Ben should be out of surgery now; he went into the OR at 1:30pm and the surgery was expected to take 4-6 hours.

Ben Roethlisberger is out of surgery.

He got out at 9:30 PM EST and no post-op update was given. If Roethlisberger misses any time in training camp or the regular season because of his injuries, the Steelers could after some of his money for incurring a non-football injury. It seems highly unlikely Pittsburgh would choose to do so. It's believed that Roethlisberger has a two month rehab for his broken jaw. Jun. 12 - 9:56 pm et

he is REALLY lucky that his only rehab is for a broken jaw.

No doubt, it will, but it is someone's personal descision and if they choose not to they will deal with the consequences. You shouldn't be forced to wear anything if you don't want to.
