Rodney from Detroit would be a good pick-up.

It would be, but I don't think that Detroit is going to deal a key member of their bullpen when they are in a playoff chase.

Maybe if they moved him for Nixon? They need a LH bat who has patience.

Not sure they would move him for Nixon, who makes big money and give him away for a rent-a-player considering they wont pay Nixon the money he will demand in the offseason. It is a good trade idea though....Id take it.

Here we go again trying to unload Nixon. Trot is NOT the reason the team is in a little funk right now. He is hitting over 300, driving in runs and playing well in the outfield. He gives 100% every time out. Get off this kick, will you? Trot is a solid player and I don't like any idea of that trade for Rodney. First of all Detroit will NOT trade him. If they do we give them a prospect in return. Nixon stays and hopefully the Red Sox will not make the same mistake they made with Damon, Mueller and Petey and get rid of them before their time.

You wouldn't trade Trot for a guy who could shorten the game even another inning?

Rodney in the 7th

Timlin in the 8th

Paps in the 9th

Look, I like Trot as much as the next guy, but he's injury prone and not the same player he once was. I'm not saying they have to dump him but if the right deal comes along (this would qualify, even as a pipe dream) you need to pull the trigger.

Besides, Wily Mo will be back by the trade deadline.

Kilo my friend, please don't get over excited about Wily Mo Pena. Yes, Papa Jack did some great things with him but if you remember just before he got hurt he was regressing back to his old habits. I have seen this before----a young slugger who will suddenly get it all together and you know what? It seldom happens. I remember Dave Nicholson in the 50's, Willie Kirkland in the 60's, John Shelby in the 70's, Franklin Stubbs in the 80's and Jeromy Burnitz in the 90's, and they all went bust with the exception of JB who could hit homers but still hit in the very low 200's. No, Rodney would be a great pickup and I give you full credit for that suggestion. It would really set us up---but not for Nixon. Besides, where did you hear that he was available? Is he really on the trading block?

Not that it’s a big shocker but I noticed this on Rotoworld from yesterday:

Red Sox activated LHP Mike Holtz from the 15-day disabled list and designated him for assignment.

Holtz was never worthy of a roster spot in the first place. Now that Boston has Javier Lopez, Holtz might decide to seek employment elsewhere rather than take an assignment to Triple-A Pawtucket.

I wouldn't do that trade. Nixon is in his walk year and he is swinging well right now, even against lefties. He is getting better of late, and I expect some big numbers by the end of the year. Also, Nixon is a great fielder, and defense has been a big key this year.

I wouldn't unload Trot. What's needs to be said about this has already been said, as I agree that Trot's performing pretty well right now. Batting over .300 and having success against lefties, his defense has been great as well. I don't feel completely comfortable letting Wily Mo play every day yet, as we will need to see how he does when he comes off the DL. I like the guy, but I don't want him to flop if he's given a starting role. Besides, from what we've seen of Seanez lately, I'm willing to begin to eat my words because lately, I'm starting to believe that this guy can turn it around and help our bullpen. Tavarez on the other end, screw it.

Schill, then we are thinking along the same lines. Answer me this question, though. Why are so many people on this board so anxious to dump Trot Nixon? I think such a thought is absolutely insane. The guy is doing a bang-up job for us, hitting, fielding and attitude and competitiveness. What is not to like about the guy. Pena? I'm telling you, this guy is still a big questionmark and for some reason he cannot play right field at Fenway. I would be worrying more about what the hell is the matter with Coco Crisp. He is pulling a Matt Clement in CF. He had better wake up fast.

I agree. Letting Damon go has been a major blunder at this point. If we still had Damon, we'd have Marte for the future.

Marte was considered the top prospect at AAA coming into this season with the potential to be a star at 3B. It can be argued that the Crisp trade bartered away the future when Ellsbury and/or Murphy would have been ready to hold down CF at the end of Damon's 4 years. What will happen with Crisp when Ellsbury is ready? Crisp doesn't have enough power to hold down a corner spot.

Coco is the centerfielder for a long time, remember he is only 26 and is coming off a 2 month injury. Before we say that letting Damon go was a mistake, lets see how Coco does when he starts to get into a grove again.

having too many centerfielders is not that bad. We can always have our second best for emergency trade bait. Lowell is fine for another year or two, maybe time enough to grab another 1B and then move Youk back

Coco played left field last year in cleveland and did enough offensively to hold the position. If he is still with the team hes likely to move to a corner position and have power at some other position. This is where not signing Pedro Alvarez really hurts.

Ellsbury is the teams starting CF in 2008 and Coco will either be gone or play one of the corners. He hasnt impressed me much with his bat, but his defense has been pretty good for the most part. He definetly is not a lead off hitter though, as he doesnt take enough pitches, never walks and doesnt get on base enough.

considering he's coming off of a wrist injury after 42 games off... Im giving him the benefit of the doubt that he'll pick things back up. As for him being gone by 2008, that is premature to say so. Theo wouldnt just sign him to an extension through 2010 with an option for 2011 if he thought Coco would be out of here once Ellisbury comes up. Our future outfield will probably look like Crisp, Ellisbury, Wily Mo0
