The Pauley experiment was a noble one but the fact is he was not ready despite his stellar performance against the Yankees. He got really shelled in his other two starts and I think it is only fair to the young pitcher to be send down to work on his pitches and improve on his game. Maybe in a year he will be ready. On the other hand, I have heard enough of Lester's potential and it is time to keep him up and see what he can do. I think he will do a lot better than Clement or our other No. 5 starters have done. And the same goes for Hansen. He is certainly better than Seanez or Taverez and should be given his shot.

To be honest....I dont think they ever expect him to be ready. I dont really think he is a prospect. He is the right handed version of Abe Alvarez. A minor leaguer who puts up above average minor league numbers with a ceiling in the minor leagues rather than majors. He is projected at MAYBE a four or five spot in a rotation.

The thing about Hansen, is that his control was awful in AAA

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Craig%20Hansen&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=475022

He had 18 BB and 20 Hits in 22.2/3 innings. So that is the issue with him right now, and which is why they are picking spots to use him in.

is this the same kid who gave up 1 into the 7th inning in nyc last week as josh beckett and wakefield got killed and schill gave up 3 bombs??

yeah its the same kid , are my stats wrong or something ? and what your saying is he's better than beckett and wake?

certainly not

but

i did appreciate him keeping us in the games against both toronto and ny while beckett couldnt get out of his own way and lenny dinardo couldnt find his ass with either hand

all i want from our staff is a chance to win

schilling and beckett do that most of the time

the rest of the staff has been scetchy

Wakefield has certainly done enough to keep the Red Sox in games during the course of this season...

SCM, thanks for the heads-up on Hansen. I didn't realize he was having so much trouble with his control at Pawtucket. What causes these things? In college he had lights out control of his pitches and now what? Has he gotten into the habit as so many young pitchers do and started nibbling? That's a sure sign of going backwards. We have pitching coaches; they ought to be able to detect any flaw in his mechanics if there are any. If not, he ought to go with his strength and challenge the hitters.

keeping them in the game against toronto? i think boston's bat was the reason they were in that game , 8 runs come on any pitcher can keep their team in the game if you score 8 runs for them

Craig Hansens control 'issues' or at least the appearance of them in the statistics come from his learning a change up and having to use his secondary pitches where he would normally be using that 96 mph heater he has very good control over to get ahead of hitters.

wait a minute here

his 1st start against toronto he left with a 6-4 lead i believe and got out of jams in every single inning he pitched....lenny dinardo had us down 8*0 before the team saw the 2nd inning

beckett got torched in 1 1/3 innings against that team as well

against ny he was 6 2/3 deep with 1 earned until that friggin roller got by him

a 75 foot single cost him that game

we all knew it was going to get worse for him after that.

he is not the answer but we need a guy who can eat up innings with as little pain as possible

dinardo couldnt do it

arroyo is in ohio and we still havent found the man for the job yet

matt clement tonite??

think about that for a moment before we crucify a kid who went against the 3 best Offenses in the game not named boston in his 1st 3 starts
