Foulke continues to struggle, 5 runs in his last 2 appearances. Great move Tito by using the loyalty card and not putting Foulke on the DL, him having a week off while there was an empty space in our bullpen helped us ever so much. I bet youre rethinking that just maybe it wouldve been better to place him on the DL and have someone up from the minors to fill his space

Moves Id like to see on Tuesday

Timlin up, Pauley down (lets have the kid work on his control)

Foulke on DL, Van Buren up

Hansen should be our 7th inning pitcher.

i think our bullpen should look like this when Timlin comes back.

Seanez

Hansen

Van Buren

Riske

Delcarmen

Timlin

Papelbon

DL--Foulke

and DFA Tavarez

Dont DFA Seanez? He's still top of my list to be gone

I would also like to see Seanez gone, but i doubt the FO would can him and Tavarez at the same time. Id be fine with ethier of them gone by the end of the week, and the other one some time in the near future. Id give Seanez the slight edge over Tavarez for now.

Sorry, but yes I can have an opinion. Like Tavarez he always is shaky in the close games, even the outings he is able to just squeeze out of. Yes scoreless ball helped by Belli's strike 3 call in a game against Tampa, walked the bases loaded in a 5-0 game in the 9th inning. Those 3 runs became all unearned.

I think this pen needs a lefty. It's nuts to think a team can get through a winning season without a lefthanded reliever.

Dinardo or Breslow could help out with that. Anyone know when Dinardos scheduled to come back?

Tek deserved the day off, he is a catcher you have to save his knees for september. Funny thing is, Francona will keep sitting him in Francona. Still, Francona is not the type of manager who will do small things that pay off immediately. He will, however, make the moves that will pay off over the course of a season and win us games over the long haul. He does a good enough job handling the team in game, but over the course of the season is where he will earn his money. He drives you nuts sometimes, but he is the kind of guy you want to play for. I've grown to understand and like Terry Francona.

my future bullpen moves...

Pauley goes down----Van Buren comes up

Foulke goes on the DL---Timlin comes off the DL

Tavarez DFA---Hansen comes up (untill Willy Mo is ready to come back)

Seanez DFA--Dinardo comes of the DL (when ready)

assuming we dont trade for someone

YH213 was right, you do get defensive way too fast.

Anyway, that was the only outing in that streak that was bad. It wouldn't have looked nearly as bad if Mirabelli could catch a sinker two inches to the right of him.

Seanez's last 15.2 IP

13 H's 6 BB's 17 K's. WHIP - 1.19

He still K's more then a batter per inning as well. Which is pretty valuable when there is a runners on 2nd and 3rd with less then two outs.

Eat 6.2 million dollars for a guy who has a 4.66 ERA?

The best bullpen in baseball last season didn't have one. I don't care if a pitcher slings it up there with his Johnson, from the left or the right, as long as he can get batters out.

So just because hes being paid 6.2 million means he has to stay on the team? If he's not getting the job done, which he hasn't he should be gone. Hes gotten enough chances to prove himself and has failed in almost all of them.

His ERA isn't even above 5.00, on what grounds should a pitcher be DFA'd for that?

The 2004 Angels also thought they could beat the Sox in the playoffs without a lefty in the pen.

I hate to think of facing NY late in the season or in the playoffs with no lefty to face Giambi or Matsui (if he's back) with the game on the line.

There is usually one situation in every game when a lefthanded reliever will help a team.

His WHIP is 1.58 and out of the 25 games he's been in, there has only been 2 games in which he hasnt allowed a baserunner.

OK, you DFA Tavarez, and call up Hansen or Van Buren. Both pitchers have had trouble throwing strikes, and both get shelled upon returning to the bigs. Now, you've already gotten rid of Tavarez, and Hansen and Van Buren aren't ready, who do you go to?

You're left sifting through other team's garbage, all the while eating Tavarez's 6.2 million dollar salary.

Hansen needs more time at the AAA level. If Tavarez is still struggling come July 31st, there's a good chance he could be DFA'd, but it's only June 11th, and arguably his ERA could be lower if Francona didn't leave him out too long on several occasions. Also, this guy has been a serviceable reliever for the last three years, you want to DFA him because he had a bad stretch? Give him some time to work out his troubles, he'll be able to go back into his previous spot in the bullpen when Timlin arrives.

The 2004 Angels brought a lefty in to face Ortiz in the 10th in game 3. How'd that work out?

The Angels didn't have a prayer against the White Sox. That starting rotation was way too dominant. Your bullpen isn't much of an asset if you're constantly playing catch up.

If you consider this year so far as a stretch, than ya i guess so. He has been so inconsistent this year. One game he will be fine, the next game he wont throw strikes and the next game he gets shelled. It hasnt been just one bad streak. All year he has sucked. IMO, hes had enough chances.

Has anyone heard anything about Clement? I heard on WEEI earlier that he was supposed to throw in the pen during Game 2.

schilling vs santana on tues....bad feeling about this one

we miss liriano for this series

so far its looking like a pitching duel between Curt & Johan. Schil has been Schil this year, and In 7 games (1 start) he has an 0.68 ERA facing Minnesota

Hopefully, this game puts Pauley experiment to rest. It's too bad it didn't happen in his last start. His game against the Yankees just delayed the inevitable. He doesn't belong in the Bigs yet. He needs to go back to the minors for a year or two and then try to win a spot in ST. We need an experienced starter, maybe two (if Clement is damaged). Lester has tools and potential and he deserves another start, but I doubt that he will have the consistent command needed to stray in the majors.

Thank God we don't see Liriano. That is all.

You're right, but anyone who just shrugs off not having a lefty in the pen is being shortsighted. Di Nardo is not the answer in a key situation, and this will ultimately hurt this team down the stretch.
