In his major league debut, Jon Lester yielded three runs -- two earned -- and walked four in 4 1/3 innings against the Rangers on Saturday.

Lester was removed from a tie game in the fifth. Julian Tavarez came in and did a great job for 1 2/3 innings, but manager Terry Francona stuck with him two long. After back-to-back singles with one out in the seventh, Tavarez walked Kevin Mench on four pitches. We can't imagine that another manager in baseball would have stuck with him after that, but Francona did, and Tavarez gave up a two-run single before finally being pulled. Lester didn't show enough command tonight to suggest that he's ready for the majors. He's supposed to stay in the rotation for now, but he's only worthy of a bench spot in AL-only leagues. hahaha, i love how rotoworld bashes Francona after every game. They always find fault with him somehow.

my streak is over now

It's cool. Happens to everyone. You had a nice little string of wins going. You should do it again later on.

I thought he showed a lot of promise. He just needs to refine his game. He had a lot to deal with today: adrenaline, the long wait, and the bad D, so it's hard to tell how much work his game needs. He deserves another start, and we will know a lot more after that.

Didnt help matters much with the home plate ump that welcomed him to the majors. Calls on both dugouts were so badly inconsistent. Like J.T. Snow's AB for example, the same exact location on 3 straight pitches: strike, ball, strike. The 36-pitch 2nd inning is what did it in for Lester, I could feel Fenway Park's agressions as not one of his borederline strike calls being called as such.

He still showed me promise and some sick poise as he kept runners on base in clutch situations, like K's Teixeira with the bases loaded to end the inning. The defense and hopefully strike zone will be going his way the next time out, which is looking like against the Braves at Turner Field.

Yea, lester pitched well under the circumstances. The damn rain, the defense, the ump, I am excited to see this guys next few years.
