this is not good news fellow yankee fans. I talked to my uncle who is from arizona and a big Diamondback fan. He told me that it is all over the news that Giambi was named by Grimsley as definately using HGH as recently as May. This is not good. GIambi and others were named directly by Grimsley to federal agents. He spilled the beans on a slew of other users and cheaters. This is going to explode in all the cheaters faces. Unfortunately it is going to ruin Giambil.

Big news this morning. Pujols may be involved.

http://www.deadspin.com/sports/baseball/so-weve-got-some-affidavit-names-179400.php

So ... We've Got Some Affidavit Names

Everyone’s guessing about who the blacked-out names in the Jason Grimsley report are, and it has been a fun parlor game so far. But we all knew eventually the names would get out. And we’ve been digging around … and some sources have given us some names.

How reliable are these names? We feel pretty confident in them, but we can’t go 100 percent, since the information is secondhand. We’ll say this: If Bud Selig issuing a press release naming the names is a 10, and picking a player at random out of the Baseball Encyclopedia is a 1, we’re at an 8.

So. Let’s do it then. Remember: Betting lines are for entertainment purposes only.

First: The person who told Grimsley about the positive test in 2003. That’s former Royals general manager Allard Baird.

As many people have guessed, one of the “former players” who were sold out by Grimsley: Sammy Sosa. Our source(s) couldn’t confirm if the other was Rafael Palmeiro.

Nothing new or exciting about that name. Then it starts to get interesting. We’ve heard amphetamine rumors of Miguel Tejada, but we can’t confirm that. What we can confirm? The doozy.

Grimsley says that a former employee of [redacted] and personal fitness trainer to several Major League Baseball players once referred him to an amphetamine source. Later, this source — not the trainer — provided him with “amphetamines, anabolic steroids and human growth hormone.” This trainer? His name is Chris Mihlfeld, a Kansas City-based “strength and conditioning guru.” (And former Strength And Conditioning Coordinator for the Royals.)

Does Mihlfeld’s name sound familiar? If it doesn’t, he — and we assure you, this gives us no pleasure to write this — has been Albert Pujols’ personal trainer since before Pujols was drafted by the Cardinals in the 13th round of the 1999 draft. We have no confirmation that Pujols’ name is in the affidavit … but Mihlfeld’s is. If you read the document, it doesn’t say the trainer/Mihlfeld supplied all the HGH and what-not; it just says the trainer was the referrer.

Yeah. Sigh. We just report what we’re told, folks. Ever hope your source is wrong? This is one of those times.

(UPDATE: OK, we’ve taken our head out of the microwave long enough to update you a bit. Here’s a “diary” Grimsley wrote about his quick recovery from Tommy John surgery. (At MLB.com!) He thanks Mihlfeld for helping him with his recovery.

We repeat: We are not claiming that Pujols has taken HGH. We are simply pointing out that Milhfeld is reportedly mentioned in the affidavit, and that he has connections to be Grimsley and Pujols. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to go back to our silent screams of pain.)

How is Grimsley supposed to know that Giambi was using HGH in May?

and therein lies the big question. does he know via hersay? (which in and of itself probably means that what he has heard is true, imo). does he have first hand knowledge?

This all comes at a time where the last couple of weeks I've been watching a lot more baseball and I've found myself wondering how some of these guys are doing what they're doing...offensively and on the mound...and how some of these guys are maintaining surprisingly impressive physiques.

Some of the quesitons I've raised in my own mind:

Is this the result of supplements like creatine and NOX and proper diet? doubtful.

Are these guys bold enough to keep using the drugs that are being tested for? In some cases perhaps, but I think there is something much bigger going on.

Are there other illegal (without a prescription) perfomance enhancing drugs that are either not being tested for or that otherwise are masked in the testing regime. I was thinking "bingo" on this theory, there's gotta be some potent stuff that's not being detected.

Does this incident open a whole new can of worms? I think so. But I don't think we'll ever learn the full extent of this and who might be using HGH or any "designer" 'roids that might go undetected, because I think players, for the most part, will remain tight-lipped. Not that I really care who does what, but can we now wonder about:

ARod? does he use HGH?

Pujols? what's he on?

Soriano? Thome? Andruw Jones? Tejada?

What about pitchers?

Does Clemens use HGH to stay competetive?

Is Santana a user (he ain't small folks...listed at 6' 0" and weighs 210...that's a solid dude.)

Others?

Tell ya what? I trust none of 'em. In fact if the use of perfromance enhancing drugs is more widespread than originally thought, maybe I should be hoping our guys DO USE so that they're on a level playing field?

I'll finish by saying if I were in MLB, either battling to stick in the bigs, battling for my next big contract or battling to be better than others because of my competetive nature...I'd consider using stuff if I could get away with it.

That said, I'm willing to bet there is more to this than anyone ever imagined.

i dont give a fiddlers f*** what these guys put in their bodies

f*** baseball for waking up 40 years too late

and f*** the feds for getting involved

last i knew 1,000,000 chicanos cross the border into arizona every year

rather than being in the d/bax dugout maybe they should sit on the border of mexicali and nogales and do some real police work

i respectfully suggest that the FBI should go out and solve a fukin crime rather than waste their time in MLB lockerooms

Grimsley bought HGH, and distributed it. Spin it anyway you want, but that's a crime. That is a federal offense, and the proper authorties are on it.

i understand and agree with the sentiment...but I konda think if it weren't MLB lockerrooms it would be some other waste of time...and with regards to the immigration problem, apparently there aren't enough working pairs of balls in Washington DC to do anything about the problem.

thank god crespo

now i can finally sleep

OK, but it's extremely ignorant to say that the government isn't working on immigration. Last time I checked, the federal government is massive, too massive for its own good.

End politcial disscusion, back on topic.

More names are coming to the surface as Jim Leyritz admits to using amphetamines.

"I came in. I was hung over, sleeping by my locker. And all of a sudden, [Don] Mattingly came to me and said, 'Hey, you're in the lineup.' And I went, 'What?' He goes, 'Yeah, I just hurt my back.'

"Now I'm walking around, I'm going, 'I don't know how I'm going to do this. There's no way that I can go play this game today.' I ran into my teammate who I knew had some of the 'little helpers,' as they called them.

"He said, 'Take one of these. It should help. It'll take the edge off.'

"So sure enough, I took one. He goes, 'OK, you can take two, but no more than two.' So I popped one more, and I went out and went 3-for-4 with two homers."

Wonder if Leyritz mentioned any names

Seems like he named Mattingly, as he is the one who provided the pills.

Not going to hold this one against Leyritz though, EVERYONE uses these things in MLB.

I don't read it as Mattingly giving him the pills. Mattingly merely informed him he was playing after Don got hurt.

And you'd be correct. Missed the "teammate" part.

5 more random Grimsley facts...

1. One of Grimsley's best friends is former Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti. Tremonti created the band Alter Bridge after Creed's singer left. There's a funny story about Grimsley when he was a Yankee where Joe Torre yelled at Grimsley for throwing batting practice to Tremonti and other band members even though he was still on the DL. Tremonti's agent denied an interview request; Alter Bridge is currently on tour in Europe.

2. A Cessna airplane once crashed into Grimsley's home in Overland Park, a Kansas City suburb. Five were killed in the crash but Grimsley's wife and kids were unharmed.

3. Grimsley only has nine toes because of a motorcycle accident from his youth.

4. He was a player's union representative back in 2003, and some of his comments drew the ire of fans.

5. A couple of his friends in baseball besides Chuck Knoblauch include current D-Rays reliever Shawn Camp and retired reliever Curt Leskanic. Leskanic may be named in the document; he has admitted to employing at least one unfair advantage. For what it's worth, one blogger thought Leskanic resembled a steroid user as a Red Sox back in 2004.

It looks like Grimsley plans to fight the D’Backs decision not to pay the remainder of his 2006 salary.

Jason Grimsley plans to fight the Arizona Diamondbacks' decision to withhold the remainder of his $825,000 salary, prompting an angry response from the team's managing general partner.

"This guy did no less than steal from us," Ken Kendrick said Saturday night.

Kendrick reiterated the club's plan not to pay Grimsley the rest of his salary, which is expected to result in a grievance filed by the players union.

"I'm just not in favor of rewarding somebody for the bad acts that they've committed, and this guy's had a career of cheating," Kendrick said. "He's a representative of the culture of cheating, and it's just not something that we're going to support at all."

MLB suspended RHP Jason Grimsley 50 games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

It's the first suspension handed down by the league that's not the result of a positive test. Grimsley has already been released by the Diamondbacks and his career is probably over, so the suspension likely isn't relevant. The big thing to be sorted out now is whether he'll get the rest of the approx. $500,000 he was due to make this season. The Diamondbacks are saying that Grimsley was unfit to play and should not be compensated for the remainder of the season. The MLBPA will likely file a grievance on his behalf. Jun. 12 - 3:44 pm et

and we all thought pujois never took steroids:o

we did?

Quite a while back I was in the camp that suspected practically everyone and recall getting blasted by posters for saying I thought certain guys might be using something.

Some of the names on my suspected list, back in the old BH forum:

Nomar

Foulke

Trot

Sheff and Giambi (duh)

Sturtze

SOsa

Bagwell

Andruw Jones

Helton

Edmonds

Pujols

Tejada

Luis Gonzalez

Richie Sexson

IRod

Now that we're learning that HGH either wasn't being tested for or wasn't conclusive (not sure what the story is there) does anyone believe these guys are innocent?

Fkn Pujols hits 'em 420 feet 1 handed when fooled by the pitch...either the ball is juiced or he is...cuz that ain't normal.

The BH forum? *Shudder*

It's also quite possible that Pujols is just the best hitter to ever play. Besides, being able to make the contact that he does in the first place (nevermind the power) on some of these pitches is absolutely incredible. Making contact with the ball isn't an upgrade when steroids/illegal supplements are taken.

according to some who've used that isn't the case...guys have claimed even their eyesight improved when using performance enhancing drugs.

I respect your opinion above. However it is fairly reminiscent of those I've seen over the last 2 or so years which say "'oh not that guy, he doesn't use" and "no, not this guy"...but based upon what?

With the little bit of light that has been shed by Grimsley, which indicates that a guy could have been using HGH, been tested, and not been considered positive for performance-enhancing drugs how can you be so confident that Pujols is "natural"?

Posted
I'm not saying that "he doesn't use," I'm just saying that it's quite possible that he's the best hitter to ever play. I haven't heard of any facts that he's a user, so until the point is proven, he's the best all around hitter I've ever seen. I would have said the same about Bonds before this whole steroid thing.

Side note: The D'Backs have broken the Jason Grimsley curse by beating the Giants tonight. They had gone 0-7 since he got busted. Just sayin'...
