Dust yourself off Matt, and just try to pitch

Clement set to face rookie in series finale

Boston (32-21) at Detroit (37-19), 1:05 p.m. ET

The Red Sox will not be able to capitalize on familiarity as a recipe for success on Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of this three-game series against the Tigers. Boston will be facing right-hander Zach Miner, who is making his Major League debut. "Well, it will probably work out best for me, because I don't like to know what the pitcher throws anyway," said Red Sox leadoff man Coco Crisp. "I'll just approach it like any other day. See the ball, hit the ball. I'll figure out what his fastball does and after that, just play the game."

As with anyone making their Major League debut, it's hard to go into the game with expectations. "We'll see how it goes," said Crisp. "You never know. He might come out with similar stuff that [Jeremy] Bonderman had [on Saturday]. Or he might come out and be nervous. We'll see how it all works out." The Red Sox counter with struggling right-hander Matt Clement, who has given up 14 runs over his last two starts.

"I've worked hard, I've been working to get myself where I want to be," said Clement. "Hopefully, the work that I've done, hopefully I can take it on the mound and show it."

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Matt Clement (4-4, 6.91 ERA)

Clement is going through a bit of a rough stretch at the moment. He gave up eight runs to the Yankees in a four-inning outing on May 24, then allowed six runs to Toronto five days later, getting the hook after just 3 1/3 innings -- his shortest start of the season to date. The eight-year veteran -- a National Leaguer until 2005 -- has never faced the Tigers.

DET: RHP Zach Miner (6-0, 2.82 ERA in Triple-A Toledo)

Miner will make his Major League debut in Mike Maroth's old spot after the Tigers moved Roman Colon back to the bullpen. Acquired last summer in the Kyle Farnsworth trade, Miner struck out 40 batters in 51 innings in Toledo.

Player to watch

David Ortiz is 0-for-6 in the series and his average is down to .259. This can only mean that he's ready to get hot.

We need to beat this kid out of the game by the second inning and win 16-8. Because clement sucks and can't have a quality start. I am holding out hope and also doubting that anything will happen.

Papi, Manny, Tek, Lowell, Coco WE NEED RUNS!!

A 1-2-3 inning for Clement...and did I-Rod bunt?

Maybe the free-swinging bats of the Tigers will help Clement today...maybe

Color me surprised about the DP. I figured the ball was headed for the RF bleachers when it got to 3-1.

Damn. I thought today was Beckett....

Anyway, here's how I view ol' Matty boy. Think of him as a hard throwing Tim Wakefield. Seriously. When it's working for strikes, he's great. When it's not, he's in trouble - just like Wake. It comes and goes, even from inning to inning. And the catcher has no idea where it will wind up.

The only differnece is that Clement is a pussy and Wake's not.

So, that Youkilis guy seems pretty good, I think they should think about keeping him.

Yeah, but Youk's just keeping Papi from playing first.

Almost back to back to back right there.

Aaron Small continues to look for the glass slipper he lost in the offseason, 3-0 O's, 2nd and 3rd, no-outs in the 3rd........

Nevermind, Millar goes yard, 6-0 O's.

I understand Clement has been very inconsistent and bad as of late (and then some), but I am curious why hes a pussy.

Not trying to start s*** in any way, I'm just curious why hes a pussy? A BIG DRIPPY VAG?
