Pedroia is not the answer at ss. He is your prototypical 2b and your defense will suffer if you have to deal with his rag arm...

The Riv is absolutely correct on this one. No, Pedroia will not make a lot of errors, but he has no range to be a short stop. Also, in case you haven't noticed, Pedroia isn't exactly lighting the world on fire at AAA.

oh c'mon now. I just watched baseball tonight and he was listing the pitchers that could have impact on rotations this season. Guess who the top 2 were? Hansen and Lester. The funny thing is, he only had 4 players on the list. There are tons more than 4 and many more likely to be in the rotation for their respective teams than Hansen or Lester for this season. Plus, he was talking about players who have revolutionized themselves, and he chooses 2 players on from the NL and one form the AL, guess who he picked from the AL? Yep, Wily Mo, while Alex Rios is having a much better season and is all around better and has shown a total change in his ability. Gammons is a total homer, and is starting to annoy me with his homerism....

I agree, but Olney is pretty much the same way with the Yankees.

Trade bait.

He is decent in the field but I'm not sure his offense fits what the Red Sox are all about. His batting average is pretty low and his slugging percentage is pretty low. He can get on base but I think he would be better served in the NL. Might be good in the leadoff spot and we have a team filled with players who can lead off. We also have Jacoby Ellsbury who should be an excellent leadoff hitter in the future.

for what its worth, ellsbury and pedroia tore up the lower levels. Pedroia is hitting a wall in AAA, but many players do. Duncan for us is hitting a wall too, it happens...

Pedroia is still fighting a wrist injury, and he is not yet in playing shape. He should be back to a .300/.400/.420 kind of hitter. But he won't be a shortstop.

It's still kind of hard to write off prospects when it's only been a month.

He was brought to Boston to play good defense, and thats exaclty what hes doing.

Anything he does offensely should be considered extra.

I have been thrilled about what this guy has done with Boston. Hes hitting the ball better, has outstanding range, quick hands, strong arm, 1 error and has been named possibly the best defensive shortstop in Boston since Rico. Thats quite an honor....

the guy is playing insane defense and he's batting something like .320 in the past 18 games and is batting .250 overall. ill take it

It'll please you to know that he is currently batting .283.

I'll be frank. At first I wasnt happy with the Gonzalez signing. All I focused on was the "bat". Probably a lot because I never had seen any games of his.

All things have changed

I dont care if he hits .250 or lower. His defense has got me to kiss the ground that he fields on. He should be a bonafide sure bet to win the 2006 gold glove. I'll call ******** if someone like Jeter gets picked over him. 1 error this season, making him the best of baseball tied with Omar Vizquel. He's already set a Red Sox record, 48 consecutive games without an error for a shortstop. Got him on my wish list to resign this next offseason

I second the re-signing of Gonzo...I guess then the question becomes...what to do with Pedroia with Lowell signed through next year. Whats Lorettas contract status? Id also hate to see him go at this point, him and Gonzo turn a solid DP. Id really like to keep this INF as is for next year...

Pedroia has been playing both 2nd and shortstop in Pawtucket. Loretta's contract ends this offseason, making him expendable if Pedroia continues to improve. Ive been a long supporter of Loretta. Baseball is all a business, have to make the tough decisions

Loretta is also 34 and Pedroia is 22.....Pedroia has torn through the minors and outside of a few minor injuries and some bad luck his stats look very good. he will make the league minimum while loretta will make between 4-5 mil money that can be spent on improving the starting pitching.

I think if the Sox were to resign him that they should trade Loretta for some bullpen help or something. He's a good player and everything, but it's not gonna hurt ya guys if you lose him in favor of bringing up Pedroia.

That was a hell of a play he made yesterday, btw.

Not only is Gonzo playing Gold Glove defense, but his hitting .284 which is better than what our SS hit last year. Once Renteria was traded, Gonzalez was my first choice to replace him. Thank God we did.

He has a higher OPS than Varitek and Crisp, and is gaining on Loretta.

Give him that extension now, please.

I think that they'll still wait till the offseason to do an extension for Gonzo, as well as Beckett who will be entering his final year before free agency.

when was the last time the REd Sox handed out an extension to a star player before their contract was ending, much less Gonzo
