Wasn't this a topic like, three months ago?

The Yankees will survive with Melky and Bubba in the outfield for the time being. It's nice to watch some kids play good defense. Jason, Alex, Cano and Jorge will handle RBI duties for the time being. The Yankees will not crash and burn with these losses, especially if we keep getting this kind of pitching.

Sure the Yanks will survive against .500 clubs like Oakland...but they will not beat the Sox/Jays/ or White Sox with the team they are currently fielding. Matsui killed us with clutch hits. You can minimize his departure all you want-- with delusions of grandeur for Melky"I bat 9th behind Andy Phillips and Kelly Stinnet" Cabrera. Please. This guy will be bench jockeying in a few weeks. Another classic instance of a myopic Yankee fan overestimating a slightly better than average player.

But please...go on..this is amusing for me.

another example of a chicken little forecasting our doom. BTW, our bench jockey was 1 for 3, again.

I don't know where you get your prognostications? Are you forecasting Melky into a .300 hitter in the MAJOR leagues based on 1 month of AAA ball this year>?

I mean looking at 2005 where he had a .275 BA and .322 OBP in 400 plus AB's at AAand a .248 BA with a pathetic .309 OBP in 100-plus AB's at AAA.

If you are going to be a simp.. and "Cherry Pick" MINOR league stats to qualify your silly projections, at least take an ENTIRE Minor League season... Sheez..do your knuckles scrape the ground when you walk?

Sure they will survive..even without Sheffield and Matsui they still have $180 million spread out on the field. They better still win. Let's not turn this into..."look at them Poor Yankees" Look how they are battling...Please.. They still have $50 million more on the field than the Sox.

So based on your "Opinion" I will eat my words.. And based on what he has shown..thus far...you will be dining on some crow.. I like my chances of being crow free.

OK, since we are giving opinions, here is mine.... Melky will never be more than a little "punch and judy", slappy-Mcsmallball, 3rd-5th Outfielder...(3rd may be a HUGE stretch.)

you must not understand that Melky was brought up to play Sheffs position while on the DL, a stint that will be over in a few weeks. So you can go preorder your Authentic Melky Cabrera 2006 ALDS Jersey if you want, but theres a great chance...he'll be back to AAA then

I dunno red. If Melky keeps hitting and putting good ABs together, I dont see how we can keep him down.

yea, but if/when everyone comes back, I'd expect the team to make that move, weather its the right or wrong.

Guess we'll have to wait a few weeks, but his playing time will probably drop

i really dislike predictions by either side...

shaugnessey last year "yankees will not win al east" and steinbrenner and his random guaruntees.

let them play it out. I am confident.

What will they do with him then???? When sheff comes back either he rides the bench or goes back to AAA to get regular ab's. right now in his career the regular playing time is to the yanks advantage rather than have him on the bench. Besides i would venture a guess that if he was not getting the regular ab's for the yanks, then he wouldn't be to good in those spot starts!

Actually it sounded like he was forcasting that based on 3 games in the majors this year!

Not with Hideki's season almost certainly over. Melky is showing alot of improvement from last year; it's clear he wasn't ready then. As long as he's somewhat productive with the bat (productive by the 9 hole's standards) and plays the field decently, he should do the job for the Yankees.

Im ready to bury the 2006 Yankees... put a fork in them..

hahaahahhaahhaahhaahhahahahahha...

Blocked.

The Yankees have enough firepower to handle the losses to the outfield corners. If two key pitchers were out, I'd be far more worried. But we've got enough offensive ability to go around. If you can survive with Alex Gonzalez in the lineup, we can live with Melky Cabrera.

He was also bragging about Melky's .385 month of April in AAA.

"I don't see how they can send him down?" Are you serrious? LMFAO! He hasn't done jack except SLAP a couple of singles here and there..lol. I have never seen somebody so excited about a couple of 1-3's (singles) and a walk(against Schilling).

RIv he is 3-6! LOLOLOL! He was 4-19 last year in the Majors.. His combined Major League AB's have netted him a whopping .588 OPS!!!! LMFAO at you RIV! You are truly priceless.
