hell yeah I fear him. anyone who watches baseball would be pissing in their pants if this guy came up against your team in a key situation.

and I don't think it's necessary to hit Ortiz. I think the writer was advocating a brushback or two. There's a diff between dusting someone, and beaning them.

I agree, there is a big difference between pitching someone tight (which is part of baseball) and throwing at a guy!

For anyone wondering why the Yankees haven't thrown at Papi ... just think about it. Ever been in a fight with someone bigger and stronger than you before? What happens when you hit them? They just get madder, and come at you twice as hard. Hitting Ortiz would be a mistake. Ortiz already kills the Yankees ... now they want to give him more of a reason to do so ... that makes sense.

The Post seems full of itself for breaking David Ortiz's concentration last night.

At about 5 p.m. yesterday, Big Papi was thinking more about The Post than the Yankees. That's good news for Yankees fans.

They should be proud, i mean papi had a terrible night:rolleyes:

did they not want him to answer the only questions he was being asked about? it is kinda tough to seem as though you are focusing on your opponent when the only things they are asking you is about what was written in the paper

Sorry to dig this up, but I never commented on it and thought it was still relevant.

Anyway, that point is ridiculous. Ortiz is not going to kill the Yankees anymore than he already does. The risk-reward for the Yankees at this standpoint is very clear. Either Ortiz gets buzzed and gets uncomfortable, or Ortiz gets buzzed and nothing happens. It's worth a shot.

Clemens threw inside to Manny during the Zimmer-Pedro game, and he was flailing away the rest of the game. Stuff like that works.

And on a side note, it would be a good means for Randy to reestablish himself. He needs to put his foot down and say enough is enough.

Personally, I LOVE Ortiz as a player and a person. He is easily one of my favorites outside of the Yankees. But it is irresponsible of the Bombers to let him sit there and hit without a worry in his head.

Let's try and put this in context: Clemens threw in at manram but that's not what made manram flail away. What made him flail away was the adrenalin/endorphins pumping through him because of what ensued after Clemens did that. After all that happened manram was asked to go and bat and he was ready to punch someone---it showed. A lot of people have "buzzed" manram before and it doesn't seem to bother him. Guys like manram and papi thrive on the pressure of the game and will succeed in that. ( i said in the game setting, not a street fight) Pitching inside is part of the game, headhunting is not so we'll see what happens if they choose to do one or the other. If you buzz papi i don't think it will bother him other than pissing him off---but if you do watch out because jeter will be earholed the next ab. Better choose a night when beckett isn't pitching or jeter's head may come off!

True. Beckett has a real mean streak in him, and he fears no one.

That mean streak is why i like him. He is fearless and that is what will make him one of the leagues more intimadating pitchers, which is always a key intangiable to a pitchers success.

didnt pedro send jetsey and soriano to the emergency ward on consecutive pitches to begin a game??
But I thought headhunting was wrong?

Don't kid yourself, Clemens scared Ramirez shitless in that AB. I don't blame him, Clemens is a scary dude. That's probably the biggest reason I'd want Clemens back on the Yankees, because he's one of the few guys who has the balls to knock down Ortiz. Intimidation works.

Clemens vs. Big Papi in a fist fight.

I'd pay money to see that (outside of baseball of course).

They both seem like pretty big guys, but Ortiz might have more fat and clemens MIGHT have more muscle.

Might be kinda fun to watch.

Clemens is a dirty fighter and a coward. Remember throwing the broken bat at Piazza, or how about throwing his glove in Tony Phillips face from about 10 feet away when he charged the mound.
