Boston (13-10) at Tampa Bay (10-13); 7:15 p.m. ET

Sox look to rebound behind DiNardo

This road trip has not been kind to the Red Sox, who've posted a 2-5 record since leaving Fenway Park's friendly confines last week.

The good news is that Boston will face the Devil Rays twice more before heading home. The Red Sox hold a 71-28 record against the Rays since 2001.

Lenny DiNardo will start for Boston. The left-hander saw his ERA skyrocket from 3.48 to 7.43 in his last start after surrendering seven earned runs on 10 hits in three-plus innings against the Blue Jays. He's enjoyed some success against Tampa Bay, however, striking out six and allowing just one earned run in 4 1/3 career innings against the Rays.

The Rays send right-hander Doug Waechter to the mound, who allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings April 19 against Boston.

Player to Watch

Designated hitter David Ortiz is 4-for-14 against Waechter, with a double, two homers, a walk and three RBIs.

Up Next

• Sunday: Red Sox (RHP Curt Schilling, 4-0, 2.60 ERA) at Devil Rays (LHP Scott Kazmir, 2-2, 4.30 ERA), 1:15 p.m. ET

• Monday: Yankees (RHP Chien-Ming Wang, 1-1, 4.80 ERA) at Red Sox (RHP Tim Wakefield, 1-4, 3.90 ERA), 7:05 p.m. ET

• Tuesday: Yankees (RHP Shawn Chacon, 3-1, 4.56 ERA) at Red Sox(RHP Josh Beckett, 3-1, 4.50 ERA), 7:05 p.m. ET

Scouting Report:

Lenny DiNardo was rocked in his last start, allowing 10 hits and seven runs over three innings (plus two batters) in a loss to the Blue Jays. DiNardo will try to get better results against the Devil Rays, a team he has made three relief appearances against in his career. Over 4 1/3 innings against Tampa Bay, DiNardo has allowed one earned run and three hits. DiNardo has been filling the void in the Boston rotation while David Wells recuperates from right knee woes.

Waechter got roughed up at Boston on April 19, when he allowed six earned runs in 2 2/3 innings to take his first loss of the season. Waechter spent a couple days in the bullpen when the Rays skipped his spot in the rotation because of an off-day Monday.

we need to win these next two games going into the yankees series. with dinardo going, we need to score runs, but that shouldn't be too hard with waechter. if schilling is schilling, we should win tomorrow, even with kazmir pitching. my prediction for tonight: Sox win, 9-6.

I'd rather see Abe than Matt Ginter. I'd like to see us keep moving forward instead stop gapping. If this is a rebuilding season, then I'd rather see the new guys instead of crap heap guys.

How can it be a rebuilding, when you have Curt Beckett and possibly Clemens, also Manny and Ortiz will start mashing the ball, Trot and Tek will also hit. There is just to much talent to be rebuilding, Theo just needs to adress some major holes in the lineup and Short and Second and the Wake/Bard Situtation
