solid draft so far, except for the third rounder TE. I LOVE how they traded up to get Chad Jackson in the 2nd round. He was the best WR available and is going to be a great nfl WR. A little dissapointed they didnt take Lawson in the first round, but we do need some depth at RB, so Maroney helps. Id like to have seen them take a guy like Mark Anderson with there 3rd rounder.

I heard on WEEI that 2006 is the last season on Daniel Graham's contract, his past injuries probably played a part as well.

i really hope the pats take Barrick Nealy tommorow. 6-4 225 QB with a 4.55 40 time. He could end up being a wideout, but hes a great athlete with a cannon. He could be a good 3rd QB/ 5th WR for the Pats as a 6th/7th round pick.

The Panthers in my mind are having one the best drafts in their team history. The only year we did better was when we picked up Peppers in 2003

I'm startin to like our draft more and more, and all of it, not just teh first two rounds. I read up on Thomas, he's a sure-handed red zone type guy, who can long-snap AND play special teams. Jackson I also think will be a good nfl wr, and Maroney just needs some muscle ans he's all set.

Because Dillon can't break tackles anymore.

Probably going with the 2 TE formations a little more this year. It would be nice to be able to give Dillon a lot of room directly behind the line. One of them is probably for insurance in case the other fails. Also, when you look at the speed Watson has, and his build, it would be interesting to see if they utilize them elsewhere than TE.

someone PLEASE explain to me why we need another TE

It seems they've been on best available player since the 3rd, not need(except maybe the K). The last TE they took can play FB too. If he's any good at it thats a pretty big need, except we don't use one. We might not use one cuz we don't really have one though.

I was expecting them to draft a kicker

Rotoworld: Patriots selected Memphis K Stephen Gostowski with the No. 118 in the NFL draft.

The selection isn't shocking. Taking Gostowski in the fourth round is. An All-Conference USA pitcher in college, he was nine-for-nine in kicks over 40 yards as a senior. He reportedly has good leg strength but average accuracy. The high pick gives Gostowski a good chance to beat out Martin Gramatica as the team's starter.

1. Laurence Maroney–RB

2. Chad Jackson—WR

3. David Thomas–TE

4a. Garrett Mills–TE/FB

4b. Stephen Gostkowski–K

5. Ryan O’Callaghan–OL

6a. Jeremy Mincey–OLB

6b. Dan Stevenson—OG

6c. Le Kevin Smith–DT

7. Willie Andrews–DB/KR

ill give them a B for the draft. I like the Maroney and Jackson picks. Dont know about the 2 TE's they got, dont think that was a big need. their 5-7 round picks i think were all pretty good, possible steals. Only problem is that they drafted one linebacker, who probably wont be good enough to start and they took no DB's untill the 7th round.

Well I really thought this draftw as productive, I like gettin Mincey so late, considering he was a projected mid-round guy. Here's the ratings at their posistions going into the draft, compared to all the other prospects.

1. Laurence Maroney - 2nd/30 -4 stars

2. Chad Jackson - 2nd/47 -4 stars

3. David Thomas - 10th/24 -2 stars

4a. Garrett Mills - 1st/12 -2 stars

4b. Stephen Gostkowski - 3rd/6 -1 star

5. Ryan O’Callaghan– - 8th/33 -3 stars

6a. Jeremy Mincey - 17th/38 (DE) - 2 stars

6b. Dan Stevenson - 13th/27 -1 star

6c. Le Kevin Smith 14th/35 -2 stars

7. Willie Andrews– 24th/32 - 1 star

One of the things people have to consider is that one of the reasons they might not have taken a DB or a LB is that they might be waiting until the June 1st cutdown when teams dump players then for salary reasons plus the Pats might be bringing back Ty Law.

UFA id like to see the Pats look at...

QB--Barrick Nealy, 6-5 220 runs a 4.50, underrated player who could help at wideout or work as the emergency QB

WR--Martin Nance,6-5 215 runs a 4.50, dont know how this guy wasnt drafted, most mock drafts had him going 2-3 round. Tall wideout who could help out around the goalline.

MLB--Kai Parham, 6-3 255 runs a 4.90, big ILB who is great against the run and could be a good compliment to Bruschi in the pats 3-4

CB--Anwar Phillips, 6-0 195 runs a 4.58, overshadowed by Alan Zemaitis, smart and has good physical skills for a corner

OLB--Spencer Havner, 6-4 250 runs a 4.70, should have been a day 1 pick but has had alot of injuries

RB--Taurean Henderson, 5-10 205 runs a 4.60, one of the best recieving RB in the draft, should be a good 3rd down back, since maroney cant catch the ball well out of the backfield, he could be a kevin faulk type of player

Nance was ranked 6th among wideouts and would give us a great height advantage inside the 10. He was really underrated in his athleticness, and has great leaping ability to go along with strong hands, also he could hlp with the running game as he is very physical and can provide some blocking.

Martin Nance scouting report---

Strengths:

Has tremendous size and a big frame...Is a major threat in the red zone...Is underrated athletically...Good leaper who knows how to go up and get the ball...Has big, strong, reliable hands...Will make the acrobatic catch...Physical and knows how to use his body...Tough player who is more than willing to go over the middle...Solid route runner...Intangibles are top notch...Very productive.

Weaknesses:

May not always play up to his timed speed...Is not very quick...Isn't an explosive athlete...Could have trouble getting separation against pro defensive backs...Probably won't be a major deep threat at the pro level...Will lose focus at times...Has missed some time due to injury...If he doesn't run well in workouts teams may downgrade his upside to that of a #2 or possession receiver.

Notes:

Had a monster season in 2003 (90 rec. for 1,498 yards and 11 touchdowns) as Ben Roethlisberger's main target...Missed most of the 2004 season with an ACL injury to his left knee...Based on size, speed and production this guy has just about everything you look for and is potentially a #1 receiver at the next level.

pats already have signed one UFA, ILB Freddie Roach from Alabama

I believe they've signed much more than that. Try looking at or sister site. Really, I don't think they matter that much. There is a reason that most weren't drafted. Maybe, one or two will stick.
