Hes also going to see Dr. Andrews who you only go to unless there is something really wrong

not really. Most orthopedic surgeons who perform surgeries will see their patients when they have a setback from the surgery....

When he missed the start of the season I don't believe he went to Andrews. This time its more serious hence the trip to Birmingham.

I think it is more the fact that he hasnt really healed since his initial injury. The MRI didnt show anything in march, and it likely won show anything this time. They'll likely open him up and do an exploratory to see if there is any flaring...

if the mri doesn't show anything that means that there is no inflammation..... why would you open him up to see if there is inflammation of the nerve when that's exactly what the mri is for?

an orthopedic surgeon can read mri's and snip cut etc.. they don't know too much about rehab. if they can't see a problem on an mri they will send the patient to a physical therapist. they are the true behind the scene people that diagnose everything wrong with patients.

this ought to slow down the js march thru the al east this year

ricciardi should be called out on this

he had an open check book this fall and ended up with this guy who has had a history of arm trouble and essentially quit on his team last summer

theyre screwed

halliday didnt look all that sharp saturday, burnett is toast and those soft serve lefties can only beat boston it seems

They're screwed? They are anything but screwed. It is foolish to eliminate them as a threat down the stretch. That lineup from 1-9 can hit. Granted, there are a few easier guys to get out, but overall that lineup can be deadly. Take a look at the Cards from '04. All bat with 1 good pitcher (Morris, at the time) and a few decent ones.

This isn't to say I'm exactly comparing the two teams, but with a lineup as deadly as the Blue Jays, it would be foolish to say that they are "screwed."

apparently has a mild ligament sprain and a straining of scar tissue. the same injury in spring training , as far as his return they have no idea when he will pitch again. If i were the jays id be verry carefull to when he pitches again , cause if they dont take their time this injury will be repeated all season long

the problem with these injuries are that they are never given enough time to heal and once healed they are not taken care of properly.

ligaments are not like muscles. they have very little vascularization, therefore lack bloodflow, therefore lack the nutrients required to heal, therefore take longer to heal than other parts of the body. it is important that he rehabs the ligament properly and takes care of it when it's healthy once again.

ASSUMING that he goes to therapy 7 days a week and follows the proper routine i can see AJ pitching with a healthy elbow in 2-3 weeks. if he's not in PT everyday and he comes back before or at 2-3 weeks it's not going to be good later down the season.

"Ogilvie-Harris's recommended rehab would see Burnett take two weeks completely off while receiving such treatments as ultrasound and interferential (electric currents), followed by another two weeks of strength work focused only on the elbows, biceps and triceps with a sophisticated isokinetic machine."

wow, that sounds so "crazy" to the layman, but anyone who has had any experience in the medical field knows that it's all bs talk to sound smart.

the therapeutic affects of ultrasound are still being debated, though, it can't hurt to use. the IFC is not for healing injuries dealing with scar tissues, nor is it for dealing with injuries such as ligaments. IFC's are for muscular injuries, it would puzzle me greatly to see why burnett would use any type of electronic therapy other than iontophoresis which is basically using electrical currents to push coritsone throught he skin.

and the special "isokinetic" machine is just a machine that adapts for mechanical advantages in different angles of arm movement.
