the globe has picked up the story and apparently the sox refuse to confirm or deny the report. Either the sox are waiting for definitive radiographs or this thing is true.....

Dude get over being pissed about the Arroyo trade. We got a raw power hitting corner outfielder for a guts and glory but average pitcher. WMP will be good and lower his strikeouts. For some reason or another you must still have a problem about it. Get off your high horse accept the trade, and if your a true Red Sox fan you will root for WMP to do the best he can not condem him every chance you get. I can see you doing thise if this happens 7 or 8 more time but it happened once and in his first start. He was trying to impress and overdid it. Lay off him.

Dude, who you talkin' to? If it is me, I was just making jokes, so lighten up! :D

...and strike out about 1,789,654,434 times too.....

Wow could you possibly be more negative? Slighting Wily Mo in your sig ... now talking s*** on Stern ... are you sure you're a Red Sox fan?

That can't true hes done well for us. hes not out your just stupid!

Yeah, that was an intelligent post.

Anyway, I read this, thought it was interesting...

Coco Plans on Being in Lineup for Home Opener

There is a report going around that Coco has a broken hand/finger that started on a Boston TV station. Evidently it seems they picked this info up off another blog some of us read and magically this blog has since taken the report down.

Coco said today after the game in an interview that he plans on being in the lineup opening day. This means to me that Coco doesn’t know his finger is broken or that this report is false. Tito also said keeping him out of the lineup today was more of a precautionary measure.

Even with Wily Mo Pena, i got a feeling that we are going to be seeing Stern get more AB's as the center fielder. Let alone he would be a serviceable leadoff hitter.

Now is the question, who gets called up? Previously it was all but confirmed that Willie Harris would get promoted once Stern's 17 days are through. However I believe Dustan Mohr would be the better bet, more pop coming off of the bench. His spring was very deserving of a spot on the roster.

As much as I don't necessarily trust the medical staff of the Boston Red Sox, here's the official statement released by Dr. Thomas Gill:

BOSTON -- Boston Red Sox Medical Director Dr. Thomas Gill this afternoon issued the following statement regarding the condition of outfielder Coco Crisp:

"Coco has a non-displaced fracture at the base of his left index finger," said Gill. "He will be placed in a splint for 10 days and reevaluated at that time. Once sufficient healing has occurred, Coco can begin batting and return to baseball activities. No surgery is indicated at this time."

Crisp injured the finger during the top of the third inning Saturday at Baltimore. He is batting .333 (8-for-24) with a double, triple and six runs scored in five games this season.

So there it is. Hopefully it won't be too long after those 10 days that he can start playing again.

I'm so glad that its only 10 days, still we will miss him but its not nearly as bad as a month. Heal quick coco!

Keep in mind though that you're looking at At least 10 days. He's going to be re-evaluated after 10 days in a splint. The Red Sox have got to DL him (if you ask me) and let him recover the requisite 15 days because to me it's going to be at least that. Call up Willie Harris or another guy who can play the outfield.

Personally I hope Adam Stern gets the playing time in centerfield and at the top of the order. He was hot in Spring Training, kicked a$$ in the WBC, and contributed yesterday with a couple hits.

He's no Coco, but he's (IMO) the best CF Option we have without Crisp.

You are 100% correct. As I said before, fractures can typically not present on radiographs for a week. Those that present early could be worse then originally anticipated or could stay the same, who knows. In 10 days, the fracture will declare itself and you will know how bad it truly is. The majority of the time, 2-3 weeks is all that is needed. Sometimes the injury is a whole lot worse and requires pinning and that could be 6-8 weeks. I'd say bank on him returning last week of april or first week of may at the latest.....

I am fine with Stern taking time in center and at the top of the line-up. I think we should leave our lineup how it is and plug stern in. Stern has looked good, and will prob only get better with more ab's.

I would rather coco take his time and let it heal 100% before coming back so we don't have a nagging injury that affects him the rest of the year. Let it heal coco, it's april and we will see you again!

Well, knowing Tito, he's going to give Stern the chance to show why he should remain on the Red Sox roster past his required time at the ML level. We may see great things come out of that kid as he proves to the management and the fans why he should remain on the roster.
