I really had to get this off my chest. I was listing to Planet Mikey last night, and it seemed that every caller was already cashing in on this season. After 1 bad game, people were saying that Wakefield shouldnt be in the rotation. 1 caller made me irrate in perticular, he said that the only reason Wakefield had 16 wins last year, is because of run support, and he went on to say that he had an ERA over 5. Its so rediclous when someone calls like that and has no idea what they are talking about. Last year his Era was like 4.00 and it was lower before a start on 3 days rest. I think its ludicrious to Write of Wake after one outing in Texas where he always sucks.

I agree; it's just the typical crap panic after a bad game! These are prob the same people the day before saying shill would win 30 games and the sox are def going to win the WS! 162 games folks!

You know what makes me more irate than stupid callers? Stupid hosts. Mikey on planet mikey is a funny guy, but he is not an intelligent baseball fan. He is calling for player's heads right along with some of the callers after just one bad game. He annoys me.

You can bet that Theo is on the phone with SD as we speak. A pitcher needs to have faith in his catcher and I think it is fair to say that Wake has no faith in Bard and Vtek has shown nothing with respects to Wake as well. Wake knew he could float that ball up there to Mirabelli and he'd catch it. If Wake cannot regain that confidence in his catcher, then he is junk. There is nothing more frustrating for a pitcher than making your pitch and haing your catcher drop it....

Hahah well, in fairness to Bard, it was his first game as a Red Sox, and he was going to be nervous. I bet that's the first time he's tried to catch a knuckleballer in a regular season game, and it also didn't help that Wake never made his pitches to begin with.

Im not sure if you had even watched the game... Wake's knuckle was never that good from the start of the game. They were either left up in the zone or on either side of the strike zone. Very rarely did I see it fall right where it should be. It can be also factored in that there was dry air (kills knucklers), 6+ ERA against Texas, 6 ERA at Ameriquest Field.

Half the callers last night were blaming Bard, while the other half blamed Wakefield (taking it to the extent that we screwed Wake over by bring in Bard and Bard shouldn't catching or Wake shouldn't have started last night... it's ridiculous). After the 7-4 win, a majority of the talk was about Foulke. It's just how it goes. When things go good, they look for the bad. When things go really bad... well, yeah.

Bard did seem to have a difficult time last night though. Plus he apparently has no bat.

Is it the all star break already? Oh thats right Wakefield has had made one start. This shouldnt be a cause to get Bard's head just yet.

I have to defend Mike Adams a little. He's basically the only host there with a decent sense of humor. He is not the brightest baseball (or sports) guy on weei, but he's the only one who usually stays level headed and tries to keep it all in perspective. Plus, half his callers are either high or drunk - or both!

Now don't get me started on The Big Show - I can't imagine how annoying it must have been today..

I understand it was one start, but you can either catch a knuckleball or you can't, and apparently Bard cannot. I mean, he had all spring to work with Wake.

Yes he did and its not like Bard did a bad job catching him as Wake was the best starter out of spring training. He had allowed just 5 ER in 19 innings pitched and Bard was immune to passed balls. Like previously said it was a mixture of first game jitters, Wake not having a good knuckle, and the team that was facing Wakefield. The blame purely cant be all placed on Bard.

What are you talking about? Bard caught wake all spring except for the first game. (which was a complete disaster and made flahrety retire rather than catch him again) He has looked good and wake said he's comfortable with him----it's one game people, let it go!

What you think Belli knew how to catch a knuckleball from the get-go? It takes time, hell, I wouldn't be suprised if he couldn't catch it cleanly until the all-star break, it's not the easiest thing to do.
