I'm driving two hours down to Tampa, walking up to the the tickett window, and buying a "Beach" seat for $6 (at least, that's how much it was last year). Then after a couple of innings, I'm moving down to somewhere about 15-20 rows up on the 3B line. The only problem is I only have 9/10 chances to go.

Sometimes there are other ways to get tickets ;).

HeadMan, I don't want to sound like I'm some millionaire because I most certianly am not, but I have a little money saved for a few trips and I am going to Spring Training this Sunday and will see three Grapefruit League games next week---the Rays, Reds and Pirates. Then on April 10 I am flying to Boston for the first two games, and a tour of the park and meeting with a few players. Remember when a few of my friends here got all over me about being a card carrying member of Red Sox Nation? Well because of that membership I get E-Mails from the Red Sox about travel packages during the season. I have to go that route since I live in California, but you could go that route, stay at a Boston hotel, and catch a couple of games. You wouldn't have to travel far so you'd save money that way. And if you live near Boston you don't even have to stay at a hotel, just pay for the games That might be worth your consideration.

It's easier for me to get on a plane and go to a day game in Baltimore or Philly. You can fly one day and buy good tickets for about 100.00.

Buddy, you seemed to have your ticket problem solved but I do wonder what so many other rabid Red Sox fans can do to get tickets to see our guys in action. To me it seems every option costs plenty of money. Maybe it is because I'm a senior citizen but $100.00 doesn't seem like chump change to me. That's a good price. My question is, does that include BOTH airfare and tickets, or just good seats and for how many people?

SeaBF, its relevant. You made your choices to fit you needs and budget, and that works for you. Remember, we have a wide diversity of members from not just the US ( although most are and the majority is the North East ). Each fan has different needs, requirements, and resources. Your option of using a ticket package from a travel agency works for you and I'm happy for you. It might work for other members and that would be great. However, I could be wrong, but most members / RS fans will improvise. For instance does one sacrifice the quality of seats ( which depends on the definition of "good seats" ), the number of seats, and how many times you want to go. You can also add in transportation costs, parking, lodging, food, etc. These are just some of the factors involved ( which I'm sure you know ), yet each person's location, income, time, desire, and responsibilities affect their options. Maybe he has tons of frequent flyer miles or can get a shuttle fare. It doesn't matter, all he's saying is here's an option that works for him. There are a number of venues that I, or anyone else, could got to the teams web site and buy field box tickets at face and make it a mini vacation or "road trip" it justs depends on all of the aforementioned.

Truer words have yet to be spoken. :)

I remember you saying your wife was expecting. Are you taking the whole family to these games?

Capeman, if you know of any way to get tickets for the games other than the way I went about it, please let me know. I don't know of any other packages the team is going to offer fans who have travel long distances, and if someone is selling tickets to, say, Yankee games, well, I am all ears. Of course, two or three times max is the most I could come to Boston from Los Angeles, but I am planning on taking a trip to Oakland to catch the Red Sox there, and I have tickets for all three Red Sox games at Angel Stadium on Aug. 22-24.

Well I think he's implying that there may be some more free ticket giveaways run by SFoC as there was last year.

I'm getting to see a couple of games...my dad scored me his company's seasons for the May 19, 20, and 21 games in Philly...and he's working on getting me his company's Fenway seats...I can't specify a game or games in that situation though...since the tickets are meant to be for customers, and, well, people who actually benefit the company, I just have to take what I can get :) I'm keeping my fingers crossed though, maybe something sweet will come of it. All in all, I don't even care, obviously it'd be sweet to see a Sox/Yanks or something, but I'd go see the Sox against the freaking Rockford Peaches if need be, Fenway is my favorite place on Earth.

Who's seen a Sox/Yanks in Beantown? I've been to 5 Boston/NY matchups, but all of them have been at The Stadium. Anyone remember the game, hmm, I think it was 3 years ago now, where Pedro beaned Sori and Jeter in the first inning? That was one of the ones I was at...pretty freaking awesome...

Ask that question again when you have a 2 y/o. They don't sit still for 3+ hrs. Plus, it was a night game and Tampa is 2+ hrs. away, meaning we didn't get home until 1 a.m. or so. I took my wife to one game, but she couldn't go two nights in a row with little sleep. For those interested, she is due April 26 (right around the corner), so I will post some pics in the photo gallery once my daughter is born.

EDIT: And if you are asking about whether or not I will be taking them to some games this season, well, the same reasons for not taking the whole family apply. Sleep is a precious commodity when you have a newborn, so I doubt the wife will want to be out all night with a new baby. It will probably be a couple of years before the whole family takes in a game. Hopefully I'll be up north by then and my daughters can have their first live baseball experience at the best ballpark in the game, Fenway.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the significance of the 22nd for you? For me, the 29th is a big day since it's my B-Day. But, I already know I'm giving that day up if she decides she wants it.

HOSN, a Red Sox-Yankees Series at Fenway would be worth its weight in gold but unless I hit the lottery or some lucky break that seems out for me, and like others, I will have to catch them at Yankee Stadium. I've seen two games there, July 4, 2003, and September 10, 2005, and both times our guys really walloped the Evil Empire. On that July 4th three years ago, the Red Sox hit seven homers, most of them off of David Wells, in a 10-3 romp. My friend who got me the tickets couldn't stand to see anymore and left in the 7th inning. Last year Schilling pitched his best game of the year, a three hit, eight inning gem in which we won 9-2 on homers by Manny and Olerud. We got 14 hits in that game if I remember correctly. But, oh boy, how I would love to see some of that rivalry in our home park.

I didn't imply anything. All I said was a Red Sox fan will find a way to get to a game. That doesn't preclude a repeat of last year, nor does it imply a repeat either.
