Why'd you make a whole new thread on this, when you also mentioned it in here? It's not that big of a deal.

He might be a fan but anyone who follows the red sox should know they acquired someone like Coco Crisp and Josh Beckett unless they have been in a hole for the entire winter.

It's jerks like you that chase away all our new members. Good job, we probably won't ever see that guy again. :thumbdown

Hes not a sox fan if he can't identify who the hell our centerfielder is. I'm sorry but any real sox fan would not fumble a question like that.

Now you are the arbiter of who is a Sox fan? Get a grip. You are coming off like a complete ass on this one.

I really don't care if he is a hardcore sox fan or not but don't come on a board and post a dumb question like who is going to be our centerfielder to replace johnny damon.

My only beef is that most new members post here for a day or two, and then jerks like you chase them away by making them feel stupid or telling them they are wrong. Maybe this person is like 10 years old, and doesn't watch ESPN or read sports websites. That doesn't mean they can't post here though.

My mom is a sox fan--although she probably couldn't give you our starting outfield for opening day!! There are many degrees of being a fan!

Funny, I don't recall reading that as part of the forum rules during registration.

R$eally, you have to let up. No one has to pass an entrance exam here. If we are going to exclude people, let's abuse Yankee fans until they leave or ban them altogether.

Although I agree, that there's no need to dump on the kid, I don't want to hear your constant inferences of Yankee fan hatred. We've got some very good Yankees fans that make significant contributions.

Papi's on the way

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff

David Ortiz is wasting no time getting back to Fort Myers after the Dominican was eliminated by Cuba in the WBC. Tito Francona said Ortiz caught a redeye in San Diego and was due back here this morning. He's not expected at the ballpark today, but you never know. Francona said Papi plans to take some BP tomorrow (an off-day for the big club) against bench coach Brad Mills. "He told me, 'I gotta get ABs, and that's pretty cool. That sometimes gets lost in the shuffle with the general public, how much they care, how responsible, especially the good ones, are about getting where they need to be.

Francona took the regulars to the back field this morning to work on rundown plays and other fundamentals. Good news is, no one got hurt. Remember when Jeff Frye blew out his knee in a rundown drill?

David Wells will start Tuesday against Tampa Bay here. Francona confirmed that he has told Wells his first regular season start will probably come April 12 at home against Toronto.

Francona all but conceded that Josh Bard has the inside track on the backup catcher job catching Tim Wakefield. He said that Ken Huckaby may not get a crack at catching Wake the rest of the camp, because the start of the season is only two weeks away. "Is that fair? Probably not,'' he said. Bard is scheduled to catch Wake here this afternoon. Huckaby went with Curt Schilling to Sarasota for a Triple-A game.

Judging that now Wells first start is April 12. This is what it could look like through the 3rd series of the season

@ Texas

April 3- Curt Schilling vs Kevin Millwood (Both have good stats against opposing teams, cool to see a pitcher's duel to start the season off)

April 4- Tim Wakefield vs Adam Eaton

April 5- Josh Beckett vs Vicente Padilla

@ Baltimore

April 7- Matt Clement vs ?

April 8- Curt Schilling vs Bruce Chen

April 9- Tim Wakefield vs Rodrigo Lopez

Toronto- Home opening

April 11- Josh Beckett vs AJ Burnett if healthy (nice duel between former teammates)

April 12- David Wells vs ?

April 13- Matt Clement vs ?

EDIT: Lets hope Matt Clement changes his ways of facing Toronto. :(

Me being a nit picking jerk here (and probably post padding too, someone call the police :thumbdown ) but they both have good stats against opposing teams? Really? As opposed to their own team, right?

Ok, sans stupid comment I actually have a question. Has anyone heard of a potential deal with Wells going to texas? I know they had scouts watching his outing last week and have interest in him. Does anyone know who might be offered? Ive looked and the only name i saw kicked around was a couple of minor leaguers I'd never heard of. Not that thats bad, I'd take a bag of balls and a foul-ball boy right now for wells.

I think he meant Millwood has good stats against the Sox and Schill has good starts against Texas.

3-2 record with a 3.71 ERA

Curt Schilling in 6 games vs Texas

2-0 record with a 3.78 ERA

Great 3-1 win by the Red Sox against the O's, whose starters stayed in for most of the game. I think we saw what we will see for the season, great pitching with solid D behind it. I'll post the stats when they come available...

Who pitched for the Sox today?

I knew Varitek would better the situation now that he's back. Bronson had thrown 5 solid shutout innings, no walks and striking out 4.

Wakefield followed with 3 shut out innings, for the spring he has not allowed a run in 9 innings.

Seanez gave up a solo HR to the leadoff batter, then retired the next 3 batters.

EDIT: stats. Record is now 6-11-1

Coco Crisp- 2 for 3, Double (.467 avg) Leads the team with 14 Hits

Adam Stern- 0 for 1 (.353 avg)
