Becketts fine. He said he felt fine and that he was pretty much only throwing fastballs today. Its not that hard for a hitter to hit a fastball when they know thats what there going to get every time. Since its his first start, his accuracy probably isnt perfect either. The important thing is that he felt good and his velocity is there, and according to Chris Snow, "he was throwing gas".

BOSTON GLOBE--

The 25-year-old right-hander said he felt strong physically, but did not do a good job of locating his pitches.

"I'm not going to feel that good and pitch that bad very often. ... I guess I can take that as a positive point," Beckett said.

"I made some mistakes that shouldn't happen. You learn from it and move on. It was all about executing pitches. I didn't. I left the ball to Gomes in the middle of the plate, trying to get it in. Lugo, same thing. Actually I was trying to go away and left it in the middle of the plate."

final pitching stats. Craig Hansen calmed down from his first outing, where he had lacked control. Serrano, Breslow, and Bumatay (non-roster invitees) continue to make a good impression on me. Breslow, a strong young lefty, I believe could have a good shot of being called up sometime this season.

Josh Beckett- 3 innings, 5 Hits, 5 Runs, Walk, 2 Ks, 15.00 ERA

Jimmy Serrano- 1 inning, 1 Hit, Walk, 2 Ks, 0.00 ERA

Craig Breslow- 1 inning, K, 0.00 ERA

Craig Hansen (W 1-0)- 1 inning, 1 Hit, 0.00 ERA

Tim Bausher- 1 inning, 2 Hits, 1 Run, 2 Ks, 4.50

Mike Bumatay- 1 inning, Walk, K, 3.00 ERA

Franklin Nunez (S 1)- 1 inning, 2 Hits, 1 Run, 4.50 ERA

Expect more pop in tomorrow's game as Manny will DH against the Orioles.

final pitching stats for today's 10-6 win over the Orioles. Seanez & Riske, try to have a clean outing you next time out. I understand its just spring training, but you gotta show the brass something (both are up to 3 appearances)

Jon Papelbon- 3 innings, 4 Hits, 2 Runs, 2 Ks, 7.71 ERA

Rudy Seanez- 1 inning, 2 Hits, 2 Runs, Walk, K, 18.00 ERA

David Riske- 1 inning, 2 Hits, 2 Runs, K, 11.25 ERA

Cla Meredith (W 1-0)- 2 innings, 2 Hits, K, 0.00 ERA

Manny Delcarmen- 1 inning, 0.00 ERA

Edgar Martinez- 1 inning, K, 0.00 ERA

Nice to see Papelbon post a better game. His second time around still gave up some hits but I hear he looked better. I would expect him to continue getting stronger in the Spring with every game he plays. Its great to see Cla Meredith pitch well, we just continue to get better pitching out of our young guys and if Rudy Seanez and Riske want to pitch like this in the regular season we will have some room for them.

Once again Coco Crisp goes 3-3 with a stolen base....think he is pumped for the season or what?? Meanwhile Manny shows some hits while David Ortiz crushes two homers against Venezuela (one against Johan Santana).....I'm beyond ready for this season to start.

Woah. Florida pounded the bag out of us today, 12-1. So Florida scores 22 runs on Detroit and then 12 on us? Damn!

We had a bunch of lame pitchers going today. Nobody of too much interest but the one interesting note....Hanley Ramirez went 3-3 against us including a triple.

Is Hanley coming right up for Florida with Pokey now gone?

Hanley was likely going to come up anyways. I believe pokey might have been playing second but with him gone Hanley is going to make it out of spring training.

Hanley wouldve still come up, he has been since the trade the leading candidate to play shortstop--Pokey was going to compete for 2nd base

---------------------

yesterday's pitching stats, Breslow & Van Buren did decent work, pretty much it for the staff that allowed at least 1 run each inning.

David Pauley (L 0-1)- 3 innings, 5 Hits, 3 Runs, 7.20 ERA

Matt Ginter- 2 nnings, 5 Hits, 3 Runs, 18.00 ERA

Mike Holtz- 1 inning, 3 Hits, 2 Runs, 2 Ks, 6.00 ERA

Mike Bumatay- 0.2 inning, 2 Hits, 1 Run, 2 Walks, K, 4.91 ERA

Craig Breslow- 1 inning, 2 Hits, 3 Runs (0 ER), K, 0.00 ERA

Jermaine Van Buren- 0.1 inning, Hit, Walk, 0.00 ERA

Sox batters could only get 3 hits off of the Marlins pitching.

Mark Loretta had a single, now batting .571

David Murphy got his first hit (double) in spring training, now batting .077

Overall it shouldnt be something to be worried about all, since a good handful of the players onhand wont make the opening day roster or even stay in the organization.

David Pauley (L 0-1)- 3 innings, 5 Hits, 3 Runs, 7.20 ERA

Matt Ginter- 2 nnings, 5 Hits, 3 Runs, 18.00 ERA

todays stats of the 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Bronson got rocked in his 2nd straight start of spring training. The relief core of Rule 5 draft Vermilyea, Seibel, Bausher, Alvarez, and Hansen had combined for 7 innings giving up just 1 run. On offense the rally had started late and was capped off by Jed Lowrie's pinch hit 2-run jack in the 9th inning. J.T. Snow is also contributing well thus far, we could be seeing him starting some games.

Coco Crisp, 0 for 2 (.500 avg)

Luke Allen, 0 for 2 (.231 avg)

Tony Graffanino, 0 for 3 (.188 avg)

Rodney Nye, 0 for 1 (.417 avg)

Trot Nixon, 1 for 2 (.455 avg)

Tyler Minges, 0 for 1 (.182 avg)

Dustan Mohr, 0 for 2 (.308 avg)

Jim Buckley, 0 for 2

JT Snow, 1 for 3, RBI, K (.385 avg)

Josh Pressley, 0 for 1 (.286 avg)

Willie Harris, 1 for 2 (.267 avg)

Dominic Ramos, 0 for 1

Alejandro Machado, 1 for 4 (.421 avg)

Luis Jimenez, 0 for 2 (.100 avg)

Ian Bladergroen, 0 for 1 (.250 avg)

Dusty Brown, 0 for 1 (.400 avg)

Jed Lowrie SS, 1 for 1, HR, 2 RBIs (.364 avg)

Bronson Arroyo (L 0-1)- 2 innings, 5 Hits, 5 Runs, 2 Walks (19.64 ERA)

James Vermilyea- 2 innings, 2 Ks, (0.00 ERA)

Phil Seibel- 1 inning, 1 Hit, 1 run, K (9.00 ERA)

Tim Bausher- 1 inning, Walk (3.00 ERA)

Abe Alvarez- 1 inning, 1 Hit, K (0.00 ERA)

Craig Hansen- 1 inning (0.00 ERA)

Josh Bard sets out on the right foot toward becoming Wake's new personal catcher. Despite couple passed balls--Wake had 4 solid shutout innings giving up 2 hits, 2 Walks, and struck out 2 batters. Huckaby is still re-habbing his knee, I dont see him going anywhere. His contract notes that it will be terminated if he doesnt make the big league roster

looking at the boxscore, bard only had 2 passed balls. Sounds good for catching 4 innings of Wake. Anyone see the game to see if Bard looked comfortable catching for wake?

Dave Murphy has 2 HR's with 5 RBI's today against the Phillies. I think it's 5-2 in the 7th.
They were pretty good blasts. His swing was very fluid making the power he generated very surprising.

There were several balls that Bard did not get down for. He let a high strike three go by but threw out the slow-footed Fasano.

schills looked very strong today. His control has been almost perfect all day, hitting his spots and has been in the strike zone with pretty much all his pitches.

EDIT-- he looked good the first 3 innings, struggling in the 4th, letting up 4 runs.

I was encouraged by Schills outing today, he had great control in the first 3 innings, and sorta lost it in the 4th, but all in all I like what i saw for spring training. He hit between 90-94 on the radar gun. Most of his splitters had great dive on them, which was not the case at all last year.
