2005 VSL Red Sox- 13 starts, 7-1 record, 0.97 ERA, 58 Ks in 64.2 innings

Scouting Report: Felix Doubront was well known as a bonus baby heading into the 2005 season. However, the 17 year-old lefty exceeded the expectations to become a candidate for the league pitcher of the year. Doubront utilizes a high 80s fastball that tops out at 91, with average breaking pitches which have steadily improved in short time. Likely will begin 2006 in the GCL.

he is one of the more interesting pitchers to watch that is way down in the system. that scouting report came from scaffolds at soxprospects.com and he is high on Doubront as he has seen him pitch before.

Along with Phillips, he's another lefty pitcher I believe could have potential.

He's 18 and already touching 90, so thats a start with me. Also his pitches are steadily improving. I look forward to what 2006 will bring.

What is his ceiling if he keep this up and keeps on developing, I guess time as of now is on his side, with him being only 17.

if he keeps this improvement like he has shown as a 17 yr old in the VSL the sky is the limit with him. he could give the red sox a potential solid pitcher down the road if he develops properly.

Jesus, thes pitchers are poppin up everywhere in our system.

he still has a long way to go until becoming a legitimate prospect but he is heading in the right direction. This year his goal should be to have success in the Gulf Coast league in his first experience in the US.

O yeah, of course, just seems everything is goin right for our minor league system. I mean Lester developing and raising his ceiling, Papelbon comin all this way, Pedroia shootin through the affiliates, I could go on and on but these past two years have been great in terms of future talent.

ya its encouraging but the red sox also have lost some depth through trades which they will need to get back this year with 7 picks in the top 100 and also be bigger players on the international market especially in Latin America where they have struggled recently.

True, but don't we have like a camp in the DR? Also we've been pushing hard at Asia which isn't bad I guess.

We have a Dominican academy but we still have not been able to sign the big bonus young guys down there. This summer I believe the red sox will only have a Dominican summer league team and not a Venzuelan summer league team.

Was at the GCL complex for about an hour. Doubrount looked like a pretty good pitcher. Good command, good fastball with a nice sink to it. They didn't have any scoreboard radar guns, but it looked like he was throwing around 87-92 mph. His slider also looked very promising. He could develop into a decent two or three starter.

It will be interesting too see how he does in the higher levels of minor league baseball

this isnt about him but i think that King Felix is overrated

Yeaaaaaaaah ... he's not. His ERA is 0.11 points higher than Beckett's. He has a 3-1 K-BB ratio just like Beckett does. I really don't have time to sit here and go over all his numbers, but trust me you're wrong.

To say a 20 year old with his numbers is overrated clearly shows that you know nothing about baseball.

Felix Hernandez is an absolute beast. He barely played Minor league baseball because he was 19 when he came up. He has never had professional hitters make adjustments to him before since he wasn't in the minors too long, its a sophmore slump, if you've watched him pitch you would know his stuff is electric. He is gonna be a machine.
