hes a marquee name.....he is not a marquee player.

Exactly. Marquee players win their arby hearings. He's one of the most overrated players in the game right now IMO.

He's a marquee player. He will make that kind of money.

if he was a marquee player the yanks would have kept him, f*** i remember when it was playoffs time he was like bellhorn struck out all the time .hes not worth anywhere close to 8 mil. career 280 BA ,320 OBP what a player. Oh wait lets check the postseason stats

233 BA , 287 OBP . real nice in the clutch. i dont like him at all.

I dont know how he's been on the all star 4 times allready, way overated

Hello, Alex Rodriguez is BETTER, so of coarse we are going to make that trade. DOesnt take away from who Soriano is and how good he is.

I mean, Nomar Garciaparra was a marquee player and you guys were willing to dumop him in favor of A-Rod, same with Manny. So your statement doesnt really hold here.

(But I agree with everyone else here, he is overrated in some aspects. But I also think you guys give him a bad wrap. He is the best all around offensive Second Baseman in the game, and his defense has improved somewhat since going to Texas.)

Best all-around 2B?!? Are you kidding? He can hit for power, but not average. He plays very little defense, is selfish, he can steal/has speed, doesn't walk, and can't hit when they really need him to. I remember the 2003 playoffs against the Red Sox when he couldn't get on base to save his life.

Hack, hack......I still don't buy that. Obviously even the Nationals think Vidro is the better 2B, since they want Soriano to change positions.

Also, what about Polanco (300 career avg.), Marcus Giles, Chone Figgens??

OFFENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Nationals might think Vidro is a better DEFENSIVE 2B, which I, and everyone agrees with. But you dont seem to understand that I said Soriano was the best all around OFFENSIVE second baseman. (Meaning he can hit for power, contact, steal bases, etc.).

RARP is an all inclusive offensive stat that is computed from EqA. EqA uses H, TB, BB, IBB, HBP, SB, CS, AB, TPA in its computation. By RARP, Soriano was the 4th best offensive 2B last year. By EqA he was 9th among 2B that made at least 200 outs last season. Once again, he's very overrated.

EDIT: And he was 5th in OPS among qualified 2B.

On the road last year:

BA: .224

OBP: .265!!!!

SLB: .374

OPS: .639

Thats in 326 at bats. Just awful.

Edit: If he stays in Washington, he's going from one of the best hitters parks to one of the worst. Why are Yankee fans defending this guy? He isn't there anymore and he seemed to always fall apart for them in the post season.

Hey, I understand that you meant OFFENSIVE, and I have been saying (if you can get it through your skull) that I DISAGREE that he is the BEST OFFENSIVE 2B in BASEBALL!!! That is why I gave examples of other OFFENSIVE 2B that I think are better!!!!!

Red, who were the 3 2B that were better than him?

Yeah, I like Utley a lot. VERY good player.

Yeah, I have the privelege of being able to watch him a lot since I live in Phillies territory, and the guy really impresses me with his bat, glove, and hustle. He is going to be something special. 30, .300 this year for Chase.

Guess that was why the Phils were willing to give up Polanco, huh?

Yup. There was a HUGE controversy over here that Polanco was the opening day second baseman. Now that Placido's gone, the sky's the limit for Utley...
