Possibly career-ending. Just terrible for a kid like him to have to go through this after starting his first NFL season.

Of course, on a good note:

The damage was much more extensive and severe, but Dr. Lonnie Paulos said surgery went well and Palmer could be back for the start of the season.

Of course, the key word is "could," and hopefully it works out well for him.

Carson Palmer's knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said Thursday.

that sounds like the most painfull injury ever

Posted

I read earlier that it apparently won't be career threatening.

I don't know the source, but...

Paulos was able to repair the knee without removing pieces of cartilage or soft tissue, a good sign.

"The things that were torn could be repaired," he said. "They were not torn beyond repair. So he's got all his parts in there, which is good. We're optimistic, actually."

If rehabilitation goes well, Palmer could be running in a couple months and might be able to play in the first regular-season game, Paulos said. The 2006 schedule hasn't been set.

yea i heard on espn that he will be back towards the end of camp, and i think that culpepper tore three rather than two ligaments and came back or something
Posted
The reports would, should be able ot play again. So its possible, but highly unlikely he can't come back from it. The Doctor said it was one of the worst knee injuries hes seen.

i think i just threw up...

bengals staff seems optimistic, i think hell return.

It is kind of interesting tho to see what they will do with John Kitna seeing as he is going to become a free agent this year

Posted
They'll re-sign him IMO. Kitna will probably start the first month for them anyway, and he's got the experience. He's good to have on the bench, should they need him in the type of situation like last week, and so he can work with Palmer.

I think Kitna is a solid quaterback but if your kitna i dont see how youd be willing to sign a contract to a team that is using only as a temporary replacement and that you will end up riding the pine 90% of your contract

Okay...where is Kitna not going to ride the pine?

True, but Grossman is always injured because he gets hit and doesn't have enough protection. He's a great QB and if given protection, he would be really good. Besides, I don't see Kitna coming into Chicago (a playoff team) and suddenly overtaking the starting QB role. Sure, he's better than Orton, but with a team like Detroit who's getting fed up with Harrington, who can't do anything with good receivers (Roy Williams, Mike Williams, Charles Rodgers), he'd easily fit in and get the starting role.

Other than that place, I don't see anywhere, other than Houston (if they take Bush, like they said they would), where Kitna would start.

Chicago: I think they'd rather break in Rex Grossman than bring in Jon Kitna.

Detroit: Why would they want Kitna?? They're probably going to draft a QB and if they don't, I don't think Jon Kitna is going to be one of their top choices.

David Carr can be a solid QB, it's just that his line couldn't block a stuffed animal and he spends more time on the ground than standing up.

They have too many other problems to try and draft a good QB. They need some serious O-Line help. When you have Damien Woody playing guard for you, you're in trouble. Guards have pulling responsibilities, and Damien Woody trying to pull around the line is just as effective as Peyton Manning in the playoffs

Fill their O-Line and defensive holes with good draft picks, and sign Kitna to a 1 year deal so you can draft a good QB the next year. Detroit needs some serious re-modeling.

There's a rumor that they'll trade Carr for some serious help with the O-Line OR for Ricky Williams. God knows Miami could use a David Carr. In which case, I'm sure they would draft Vince or Leinart to fill Carr's position, but should they go with O-Line help, they could use Kitna and draft Bush.

True, but I'm not saying bring him in and make him starter right away. If I'm the Chicago Bears, I have absolutely no faith in Grossman's ability to stay healthy, and I want a competent backup.

I've heard Houston is committed to getting Bush with the first pick. If that's the case, they might trade Carr for line help, not Williams. Which then would mean, yes, that they sign Kitna (or someone else).

were could kitna end up?

1. Green Bay (theyve been dissapointed with alex watever's performance in practice)

2. Browns - who do they have?

3. Titans/Saints/Houstan - if the texans pick young one of them is going to pick up bush leaving them without a solid qb, kitna could be an option

4. Jets - Its pretty clear that pennington is not the answer

5. Dolphins - Gus Ferotte, i LOL at you

6. Raiders - Collins is not getting it done

and those are just off the top of my head

edit: as for houstan commited to bush, that is ********, teams are not going to commit to anyone several months before the draft.

Well I think they'll keep Kitna with the uncertainty of Palmer.

Ravens i heard were looking at him

Id agree that they would certainly try to keep kitna, i just dont see why kitna would stay.

by the why, this was by far the most grusume injury I have ever seen. I remember watching it with zach (schillingouttheks) at my house and we both were sick to our stomaches.

You are sick. :harhar:

Yeah, I remember that. Miami got robbed too <_>

If Aaron Rodgers can't be turned into a starting QB then the Front Office in Green Bay is in a lot of trouble.

2. Browns - who do they have?

They grabbed Charlie Frye in draft last year, and I think they're going to give him a chance to start next year. He showed some potential last year in limited playing time.

3. Titans/Saints/Houstan - if the texans pick young one of them is going to pick up bush leaving them without a solid qb, kitna could be an option

The Texans have David Carr, he is their franchise QB. They annonced that as the reason for drafting Reggie Bush #1.

The Saints will draft Matt Leinart.

The Titans will draft Vince Young.

4. Jets - Its pretty clear that pennington is not the answer

Definatly a spot where he could get a shot.

5. Dolphins - Gus Ferotte, i LOL at you

Another place he could ge a shot, but Ferotte didn't play that bad this year.

6. Raiders - Collins is not getting it done

Another possible spot, but I think they might try to move up in the draft, because Kitna really doesn't fit the Raider style.

edit: as for houstan commited to bush, that is ********, teams are not going to commit to anyone several months before the draft.

The Texans will select Reggie Bush #1, or trade out of the pick, and someone else will draft him #1.
