I would think that we would just throw the game out, but that just increases the chance of people having the same record. It's up to SFoC.

Although, the game, or games in this case, would end up with 0 points ( push, game thrown out ) in the event the spread was tied. It would have affect on reducing the pool of players to an eventual winner. From any applied statistics course, if you decrease the number of choices in a non-factual situation ( ie. choices made on assumptions ) the probabilty of chosing the correct cumulative answers increases. Simply put the odds of people being tied after the first round would increase. The same effect would occur if everyone in the contest picked the same outcome for one or more games ( it wouldn't matter who won, because every one would either all win or loose thus cancelling the game ). One way of correcting this effect is to increase the size of the participant pool. In theory, if the pool size were largest enough, there would be at least one winner who picked all games correctly ( because all permutations would have been covered, the same as a grid contest where there are 100 choices and 100 participants ). This is one of the reasons that I encourage a large number of participants ( another is to have more members having some fun ).

 

Statistically, I can't prove it, by there seems to be few ties against the spread. This amount seems to significantly decrease in the playoffs. Remember the spread is issued by Vegas, ( on ties they make no money ). Also the spreads that I post are from Wed. or Thurs. These may not the final spreads that people bet on.

 

Okay, back to the question, Arod2212 makes a valid point, I will leave it the as is for now. My primary reason is that, most of the picks are already in and I don't want to cause any confusion. Personally, I think people will be suprised how the point system works. If I think there's a problem with even point spreads after this week, I'll adjust them.
