There's a better chance of seeing Soxfan without a dick in his mouth, then Gibson playing center for the Red Sox.

Lovin the pic....Benny was the MAN!!

He had that nice little grand slam streak for the Mets a few years back, but after his time with the Red Sox, where he was overcome with the idiocy of New England, he was forced to move on to the Chiba Lotte Marines of NPB, where he is playing under Bobby Valentine ans is once again The MANN!!!

..but yea, the pic you posted is HILARIOUS

If he was a prospect of Lastings Milledge caliber then maybe then he could do decently at the ML level. However, he has a lot to work on, his defense is solid, but even his stealing, he needs some fine-tuning on.

Its just the kid was jus drafted this past June, and spent 05 in Single A. That sudden leap is big to take, and I think its better for him to have more time down in the farm. A trade for Dave Roberts or signing Preston Wilson to a 2/3 year deal would be a temp fix to hold the position for him coming up through the ranks. I have heard some great things about this kid, hence 1st round choice. Reminded a lot of scouts of "Johnny Damon" style running and hitting, but unlike Damon... he has the arm throwing power similar to Gabe Kapler's.

im starting to get the feeling that the fo is building the team in a capacity in which they dont expect to go for it all next year

although the last time a boston team did it (2001 patriots) good things happened

Some players make the jump. The Braves were pretty famous back during the late 90s for bringing up A-ball pitchers and throwing them in the bullpen... of course off the top of my head I can't even think of one-- the problem is I don't think any of them stuck around too long.

Rafael Furcal skipped AAA entirely (maybe AA too, my memory is failing me), but this guy stole 100 bases in the minors before being called up.

I love the idea of the Red Sox building from within, building a strong core group of players to work with, but Ellsbury's played 35 pro games? Inviting him to Spring Training is one thing. Teams often invite kids to ST so they can get exposed to veterans and get a taste of what it's like-- but handing him the job at the Major League level is jumping the gun a bit.

They'd be much better off just handing the job to David Murphy if they're going to get someone from the farm. Murphy's more advanced based solely on the fact that he's older and has more experience-- but I don't think that's going to happen.

Preston Wilson is a decent choice depending on what he wants, but in my mind the most likely senario is a trade with San Diego that brings in Dave Roberts for Wells. That is the one move that just seems to make sense for all parties.

Cross Jeromy Burnitz off your list, signing 2 year deal with the Orioles. Same for Eric Byrnes who has been nabbed by the D-backs.

Rotoworld: The Diamondbacks will sign Eric Byrnes to a one-year deal worth about $2.2 million, according to the Arizona Republic. Maybe he's still a defensive upgrade over an injured Jose Cruz Jr. and Shawn Green, but we're raising our ERA projections for each Diamondbacks starter, even sinkerballer Brandon Webb. Nearly as bad as Byrnes playing center field is the scary thought that he might bat second on a full-time basis. He'd look pretty good between Craig Counsell and Luis Gonzalez against lefties, but he's a career .241/.311/.397 hitter against right-handers.

------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Preston Wilson as well possibly

Cubs Close To Signing Preston Wilson?

mlbtraderumors.com I've got the latest Cubs scoop tonight. This is thirdhand information originating from a baseball scout, but I do think it's legitimate. The source is telling me that the Cubs are close to signing Preston Wilson. It seems that the Tejada deal is dead and the Orioles have rejected the Cubs' offer. Cubs GM Jim Hendry is looking in another direction for some added power in the lineup, and Wilson is his type of player. By that, I mean that Wilson is an affordable outfielder with average to below average plate discipline. He's a career .264/.333/.478 hitter.

The acquisition would push Jacque Jones to left field, a position he hasn't played since 2003. Matt Murton would platoon with Jones and face southpaws. Wilson would take over in right field, a position he's played for just 19 games in his career. The source also mentioned that Corey Patterson is as good as gone, although we pretty much assumed that.

That didnt take long, 3 possible candidates for Sox to look at, signing with new teams over the course of 24 hours

According to Newsday, Red Sox have expressed some interest in FA Outfielder Richard Hidalgo. I don't really see a fit here but I guess the thinking is for someone to spell Nixon against lefties.

Hmmm. For 1-2 million I would take a shot at him, but his numbers have been god-awful from 2004 and 2005.

from the Boston Herald's outlook on filling the bench needs in the outfield dept

Outfielders

Jobs available: Four or five.

Leading candidates: Coco Crisp, Dustan Mohr, Trot Nixon and Manny Ramirez.

Darkhorse candidates: Willie Harris, Gabe Kapler and Adam Stern.

Longshots: Brandon Moss and David Murphy.

The Red Sox have sometimes carried only four outfielders in recent years, but that was when they had the option of putting Kevin Millar in the outfield. Given Nixon’s shortcomings against left-handed pitching and Ramirez’ propensity to take an occasional day off, it seems likely that the Sox will need a fifth outfielder in 2006.

Obviously, Kapler is a known commodity and a perfect fit, but he is still recovering from surgery on his left Achilles tendon. In his absence, Mohr and his .907 OPS against left-handed pitching last season make him a seemingly ideal replacement. As for the final spot, that could well go to Stern or Harris, each of whom would give Francona a pinch-runner off the bench.

According to roto:

The Orioles, Red Sox and Reds have some interest in free agent Richard Hidalgo, according to Newsday.

The rumors of Hidalgo going to Baltimore died down when Corey Patterson was acquired, but the Orioles could bring him in to battle Patterson and Luis Matos for two outfield spots. The Red Sox would only need him against lefties initially, and the Reds wouldn't even have a platoon role open for him. Washington would make some sense here -- Hidalgo is clearly superior to Sammy Sosa defensively -- but the Nationals haven't been mentioned in connection with him. Feb. 12 - 2:41 pm et

i would rather stay away from a huge injury risk like juan gonzalez who can't even play the outfield anymore. he is a DH even if he is healthy which the past few years he has not been. his career is pretty much over.

Not even a minor league contract? How about Alex Cabrera?

I would rather sign a bowl of throw up than sign Juan Gonzalez, you sir, are a moron.

Bowl of throw up as in Dustin Mohr? lmfao! Ever heard of low risk high reward morons?

Here's an example. Griffey Jr . All the talent in the world but was constantly on the DL & guess what? Last season he had a pretty good year I would say ( .301, 35 hr, 92 rbi ). Juan Gone has the talent all he needs is to stay healthy, he's going to play in the WBC, if he looks good I say sign him. WHY NOT?

* And to the genius that said that he would rather play our young players, what young of prospects do we have that are ready to play in the majors?:dunno:

LOL, it's not like I said give him $10mill per ...

Posted
the difference of why griffey was given the chance to play again and why juan gone won't get a chance is that the reds are not going to let griffey ride the pine for the type of money he is making and he can somewhat still play the outfield something gonzalez can't do anymore. frankly i will pass.

You're STUPID if you think Cabrera would sign a minor league deal with the type of money he makes over in Japan.

...I said a while back that I would like to sign Juan to a minor league deal. Wonder where he ends up.

Also, isnt Crisp supposed to be the leadoff man with Loretta batting 2?
