Edgar Renteria last night acknowledged that he ''wanted out of Boston," but not because of the Boston fans (he called them ''more demanding" than those in St. Louis but said he came to appreciate it) or his comfort level with the American League (he said it was increasing). Rather, he cited the Fenway infield, which he said contributed to his major league-leading 30 errors.

''It's one of the main reasons why I didn't feel comfortable," he said, speaking in Spanish yesterday when reached by phone in Miami.

''I worked a lot last year to feel comfortable and just couldn't. It's one of the reasons why I wanted out of Boston."

He did not cite any other reasons for wanting to be moved.

''The ball bounces too much in the field of the shortstop, where I play," he said. ''The field is not good like other stadiums. One day it's bad, the next day, it's worse . . . I was uncomfortable the whole year."

IMO this is more like the girlfriend telling everyone that they did the dumping, I mean honestly he didn't need to say any of this. Also his reason sucks: "The ball bounces too much, and my comfortability level wasn't right". Tell that to Pokey f***in Reese.

if fenway park's field contributed greatly to his 30 errors.... why was he the only player to have more than 12 errors. Bill Mueller had ranked 2nd in errors at 11.

Also of note, most of Rent's errors were throwing errors, which has nothing at all to do with the field he plays on.

Well Mueller had more expierience in fenway and fielding third base is soooo much different than short. Even for professionals, you need to a top quality fielder to handle that position. 3rd base doesn't require half of the range of short. I play third and I have the range of a dead giraffe and I can play a pretty good third. That said, Mueller is a beast and renteria isn't.

Isn't fenway reputed for its "true hops" and good fielding infield? I thought it was.

I know, I'm not defending Renteria, he was garbage. I think he was hurt and he was clearly out of shape. If he were an out of shape corner guy, it wouldn't have been a big deal because playing the corner doesn't require the athleticism that the middle does. So, blaming it on the park is bush league. It's ok, at least he liked the fans.

if this was the problem then you'd think they would try to help him out and fix it i have heard people say this was one of the best fields maybe he met his talent was bad and the next day it was worse but it got lost in translation

this is a discussion forum, do you even know what that is? if you don't use any sort of grammar and type complete runon sentences that make zero sense whatsoever no one will read a word you say. some, will try but it's only a matter of time before everyone completely disregards you.

i'm giving you a heads up, don't be a retard, use grammar.

puzzling move. I dont see anyone on the FA who's an upgrade over Edgar. Almost seems like a move for the sake of making a move.

Are you kidding? He was terrible. Just about anyone would be an improvement.

dude seriously i do know alot about baseball i just dont want berkamn

you obviously don't, lets make a list:

1) you think berkman is injury prone

2) you think that drew is not injury prone

3) you wouldn't trade manny for berkman and lidge

4) berkman has played more 154 (ish) games/season than manny even though manny's career is twice as long as berkmans.

5) everything else that comes out of your mouth
