from Gordon Edes:

"It was something of a surprise that Myers was not offered arbitration. Bill Lajoie said the team could only afford to have one reliever who fits in the category of a one-hitter pitcher and they have that in Chad Bradford. A number of teams have expressed interest in Myers, including the Yankees."

why myers?

In the Globe article Bill Lajoie said that the team can't afford to have more than one reliever who is a 1 hitter pitcher which they already have in Bradford who is under contract for this year. I expect to see Myers sign with the Yankees.

Odds are he wouldnt have accepted anyway, they should have offered him so that they could get a draft pick or something.

A huge shocker to me was that the Angels didnt offer Molina or Washburn arbitration and that the Astros didnt offer Clemens arbitration. Also the White Sox didnt offer Frank Thomas. I dont know why not, all of these guys would have brought in some draft picks.

Well all those teams clearly didn't want their players and they didn't want to take the risk that the player would accept arbitration and they would be stuck with them without wanting to be. I know that happened last year with the Phillies and Polanco, and I think there was 1 other situation.

Yea, I understand that, but its still worth the chance of a draft pick.

Since there is no Myers...it looks like our bullpen will be all righty pitchers except for possibly Lenny DiNardo....anyone else find this move interesting?? I would have to say the Angels are the ones that really showed off some stuff with Donally, Sheilds, K-Rod, and Escobar in the playoffs....all righty but could all pitch an inning or two

all of them also had what i call a herky-jerky windup...i think that kind of windup confuses the batter as well

Thats true but what I was getting at was the pitchers ability to finish off an inning. If we have a bunch of guys in the bullpen who are good at pitching (against lefty or righty) then I dont think it matters which way they throw. Foulke, Timlin, Mota, Hansen, Delcarmen, Arroyo, and players like Linebrink...are all pitchers who can go an inning and face any batter....I like that more than trying to match up players and deal with pitchers who can only face one batter.

Its looking like as well that Chad Bradford's option will be picked up. Thats cool with me, he did show that he could pitch up to 2 innings straight. You got to love his pitching style to, no one else like him in the majors that I know of
