Maine and Richmond officially tipped off the college basketball season this afternoon. For those interested, Richmond won 44-42.

Memphis also hosts UT-Martin tonight at 7:00 ET on ESPNU.

Hope I'm not the only one ecstatic that college basketball is officially here.

Kentucky got routed by Gardner-Webb tonight... I wonder if there's a little buyers remorse with the Gillespie hire...

GIARSF sure must be proud of his Wildcats!

This wasn't your typical upset where a team let's an inferior team hang around, the falls victim to some sort of miracle finish...

This was the type of upset where Kentucky never got within 7 points of Gardner-Webb. f***ing awesome, I say.

Well, we know one thing for certain, god is not a Wildcats FAN!

these fans REALLY miss the free wheeling Pitino era. I can't blame them, but I am sooo glad he moved on. Kentucky was positioned to start a dynasty like UCLA. I just can't stand their fans, most obnoxious and under informed group I have ever met. I have been able to crack a few of my close friends here one on one, but in a group they go right back to ignorance.

I take it you've never come across Alabama fans, specifically in football.

I watched the GW-Kentucky game yesterday. UK just got outplayed. It was also Billy Gillespie's birthday.

USC loses to Mercer 96-81

Mayo had a much better second half and put up 32 points. But I guess when you put up 27 shots, your bound to put up some points.

I've been saying it, I've screamed it before and its going to be true all season long, USC has no talent on the team besides Mayo and he is going to ruin what little chemistry that they have by being a selfish PG. He knows he is a one and done player and he will take all the bad shots, score all the points to try to show off his skills and USC will pay dearly for it. He is the college version of Kobe, and he will score 30-40 points a game and the team will still lose. It's ironic how the most selfish player in the NBA, and the most selfish player in the NCAA, play in the same city.

Does anyone else see the pattern? The pattern of teams that play like a family vs the teams that play like they have only 1 player.

LA Clippers = good, UCLA = good

LA Lakers = bad, USC = Bad

USC gone from the Top 25 in the first week, just like I though.

Next comes Stanford, and Arizona may even follow in the coming weeks. Oregon and UCLA are the only sure things from the Pac-10

7 NCAA teams my ass!

Mercer is awful, they were ranked #275 last year and their best win was vs # 265 Gardner-Webb.

Looks like UK and USC are making us learn all the names of all the teams in the Atlantic Sun conference so well.

The Frosh continue to dominate.

Jonny Flynn was amzing tonight.

FIRST GAME IN COLLEGE:

10-13 from the field...including 6-7 from 3...

28 points...breaking Melo's team record for points by a freshman making his debut...

Plus throw in 9 assists and 5 boards...

I am pretty damn excited about this upcoming season.

After you busting like 8 nuts over Flynn I was more than unimpressed. 5/1/6?

That kid Harris was pretty impressive though.

Overall Cuse didn't look as good as you made them out to be, as St. Joes was abole to stay with them.

I do think they're a top team in the Big East though, end the season somewhere around the 13-20 range IMO

Ummm ... lets see he scored 28 in the season opener... he has it all. He can score, he has vision, his passing can be fundamental or and1/globetrotter style (see the accurate half court oop to greene), he's got moxy, hes got a jumpshot, hes tough to the hole, he can hit his freethrows, hes a leader, hes a clutch shooter, AND hes a freshman.

He didn't put up the points, but he played very well. Lots of passes that set up the pass for an easy bucket. I love the fact that he had the confidence to take that three pointer in stride after the night he was having from the floor. That alone speaks volumes. He's a leader for sure.

St. Joes is a tournament team, they have experience, decent shooters and a big man that could definitely play in the big east.

We have the #2 recruiting class, of course theres gonna be growing pains. We have 4 guys that could put in 20+ on any given night (Devo, Jonny, Paul and Donte) We will become harder to defend as the season goes on. Many people are criticizing our defense (although Coach K has started copying our 2-3, and having Boeheim critique it) Our learning curve on defense seems to be fast.

Harris had a huge game and played great other than a few blunders, most notable making his last free throw with .8 on the clock alowing ST. Joe's to in bound and get off a shot rather than rebound and not get off a shot.

Jonny has the icy waters of Niagra Falls in his veins. After having missed every shot he took up to that point he stroked an NBA three to win it for us.

He knew he was going to make that shot. Even Len Elmore was saying that we had to put the ball in his hands. It was an NBA range 3 then he makes the smart foul when we are up 3. I have a feeling Harris is gonna get runned by Boeheim in practice though. I am sure that he was told to miss it. Anyway, we will be really good by mid-season because Flynn won't let us be bad. You're lying to youself if you don't want this kid on your team.

Posted

Obviously I'd want him on my team, because BC isn't going to be very good this year I don't think. Spare me Rice and two freshmen who have the potential to be pretty good, the roster doesn't have much talent.

You're just talking about him like the second coming of MJ here, he's not as good as you're saying he is.

Posted
I'm talking him up because we haven't had a true point guard since Sherman Douglas. G-Mac was good' date=' but he wasn't a true PG.[/quote']

Nothing wrong with talking about a guy but from what you say, sounds like he's a cross between MJ, Magic, Bird, and Russell.

He's a very good player, but we'll have to wait and see how good he will actually be.

DID YOU GUYS SEE SCALABRINE LAST NIGHT HE HIT A COUPLE THREES AND ANOTHER BUCKET AND HAD A GREAT DRIVE TO THE HOLE HE WAS AMAZING FOR A GUY WHO ONLY COMES OFF THE BENCH HES GOT SOME OF THE BEST VISION IN THE COUNTRY A GREAT STROKE FROM OUTSIDE...

yeah no he doesn't, thats what you did with flynn off like one great game. everyone has good games.

#1 UNC tied with unranked Davidson with four and a half minutes left.

Edit: And UNC holds on. Quite the battle tonight from Davidson. They still play Duke, UCLA, and NC State, all before Christmas. I wouldn't be at all shocked to see them upset at least one of those teams.

as illegal and wrong as it is i would love to see the nba go to a over 20 only league

the college game has taken a hit with all the kids jumping so early

i still like it better than the nba but i wouldve liked to see oden and durant this winter in college rather than on the pine or the dl
