just thought I'd start on official thread on the 1st basemen situation

At first base, Milwaukee’s Lyle Overbay and Texas’ Adrian Gonzalez have been mentioned as trade possibilities, and so have Cincinnati’s Sean Casey, the Los Angeles Angels’ Darin Erstad and Arizona’s Chad Tracy. Travis Lee is also available on the free agent market

I say try and make a deal for Lyle Overbay but if they can't do that then give Youklis a chance and start him at 1st.

Just if you want a little info on them

Overbay is 28, and made$446,000 last year

Adrian Gonzalez is 23, and made $316,000 last year

Sean Casey is 30, and made $7,800,000 last year

Darin Ersttad is 31, and made $8,250,000 last year

Chad Tracy is 25, and made $335,000 last year

Travis Lee is 30, and made $1,300,000 last year

Those numbers are all of baseball-reference.com

If your looking just for a good fielder..and not a great hitter, I'd say Erstad...but overall, Chad Tracys one of the best options, hes young and can hit 30homers and bat .300, as well as have a .996 F%

Is Konerko still on our wish list? Freeing up money with trading manny and wells I think we could afford him. His bat could replace Manny's and Pitchers would still fear the 3,4(batting order) punch.

The sox have been quite mysterious in the way they negotiate recently. It all seems VERY under the radar. However, I haven't heard a whole lot about the sox going after Konerko recently and, like with BJ Ryan, that might mean they'll lose him before they can try. Of course, Konerko's agent did say he was eager to hear what the sox offer would be so perhaps they'll wait. I just don't want to miss out on a chance for Konerko... I don't care how much money ownership spends between a Konerko or a Tracy, I just want the best player available.

i don't really like konkero if we have other options like overbay and tracy, true that konkero has back to back 40 HR seasons, but it was in a very hitter's friendly ballpark, tracy had 25 or something in a pretty spacious park and he's young and cheap...if we have a chance to get overbay or tracy before konkero, i say do it

Chad Tracy

Hitting

A .335 hitter in four minor league seasons, Tracy has a flat swing and keeps his hands inside the ball well, often going to left field. He stays balanced and has a quick stroke, allowing him to be a good contact hitter. He recognizes pitches well, drawing a decent number of walks, but does not generate much home-run power with his swing. The longball wasn't part of his minor league repertoire either, though he powered 70 doubles in the high minors in 2002 and 2003.

Baserunning & Defense

A first baseman until his last year in college, Tracy lacks range at third base. His reactions are slow and his footwork clumsy at times. He goes through periods where he struggles with his throws, often because of poor footwork. But Tracy has a strong work ethic and should improve defensively.

eh i think brandon moss more than david murphy

David murphy is the best defensive player for the paw sox and is starting to hit for power--Look for his name to come up more if Trot ends up on the DL and not much hitting for power. Gordon Edes said recently Murphy would be top of the list to play right field if Boston dont resign Trot when his contract ends next season.

Konerko is far fetched for coming to Boston, but still the Sox have been talking to his agent. Id like it more if Manny stays

3. David Ortiz

4. Manny Ramirez

5. Paul Konerko

Manny on first?:dunno:

I think you're overvaluing our players. Tracy is a young power hitting first basemen. Shoppach looked overmatched in the majors last year, Clement is an overpaid pitcher, and Murphy has put together half a good season at AAA.

yeah shoppach was 0-11 with 5 Ks

If there is one thing I have noticed... is since theo left we have not messed with the "idiots" and really focussed on youth. IMO that is to bring in young players and steer away from that careless attitude.

I doubt it will happen, but it would be a great trade.

I know what your tryin to say but you gotta admit Theo did an excellent job drafting and really gave us the ability to get beckett by keeping Hanley Ramirez after many offers, and now we're lookin at a big three of the future in Beckett, lester, and Papy.

On the subject, getting Tracy hasn't been deemed out of the question, in fact on ESPN when talking about the Beckett trade, and what that means for Youkilis, they said we were looking at Overbay, Gonzalez and Tracy.
