As shallow as the GM market is out their, there might be a couple of suitable replacements for Theo, here are some of the names;

Jim Bowden (current Nationals GM)

Paul DePodesta (former Dodgers GM)

Dave Dombrowski (current Tigers team president)

David Forst (current assistant to Billy Beane)

Gerry Hunsicker (former Astros GM)

Kim Ng (Dodgers assistant GM)

Kevin Towers (current Padres GM)

as for me, i like David Forst, because he's a Billy Beane guy, focusing on OBP just like Theo did

Kevin Towers is out, I love Jim Bowden, Hunsicker is out too and i loved him as well. Those were my top three, Bowden i guess could still happen, i don't know much about Forest, but he sounds intruiging. I keep hearing that they are going to stay in house with this on EEI and such.

I don't like Depodesta. Anyone but him.

Yeah I dont think many people like Depodesta. I wouldn't mind staying in house for the next guy. Remember it wasn't just Theo that made this ship run it was everyone involved. Why not keep it that way instead of bringing in someone not familiar with the way things have gone the last three seasons. We know that Larry has a huge hand in what happens so instead of starting a feud with a new guy...just leave the ones that are there already. That way the team will run in the same direction as it has been.

yea, I think if we go in house that might keep alot of the guys in the from the front office, scouting, etc. here instead of going to AZ as has been said.

Theo did such a good job because he had excellent advisors. Bill James crunched the numbers, and Craig Shipley (the head scout) evaluated the talent. Theo's decisions were based on good analysis of players' real value (sabermetrics) and their on field ability (scouting). I think the most important thing for whoever becomes the next GM is that he have an open mind and open ear. This is most likely to happen with an in-house promotion, which will also have the highest degree of continuity, something that is very important when a shake-up like this happens.

I think that the best possibility would have been Towers, but he is out. So from the list I think you guys could really benefit from Bowden.

From what I understand, him and Steinbrenner have a good relationship and I heard he was a guy who would have been a top candidate had Cashman left. So he might not want to go to work for the Red Sox....but hey, if the $$$ is there , im sure he will be too.

Also, maybe you guys just go without a GM and let the front office handle everything.

I doubt it, I think they will stay in house and i definetly think bowden would come here, I'm a huge sox fan and i know that if i ever got a job offer as the yankees GM i would take it in a heart beat. Its really not this big divided thing like everyone thinks, Yankees players and Sox players respect each other, and talk off the field. Baseball people are baseball people. He wouldn't turn down a job cause he knows George. I think hes good, and I'd like him to come here a lot, but I also think that staying in house and keeping the same philosophy going that we've had would be ideal. I think we will end up staying in house.
